Hi everyone, @andreabruce here. i had the honor of receiving the anja niedringhaus courage in photojournalism award and will be hosting the feed this week with photos from my portfolio. | looking at the street life below, reena bihari stands on the edge of the dorm roof where she lives with other factory girls for the k. mohan clothing factory in bangalore, india.
india is trying to transform itself into a manufacturing economy, and for this, it must find workers. in this case, workers have been brought here at government expense from remote villages, from a population that has never before been t****t into the economy: unmarried women. @noorimages #anjascourage #india

Thanks so much for following along this week. this is @annaclarespelman, documentary filmmaker and photographer. keep en eye out for the full pieces of what i’ve shared this week, that will be published with @uninoticias . i also produce and edit work over at @bluechalkmedia, and am working on a feature film about one of the bravest people i know, @meanttobemaddie , a young transgender girl living in north carolina.
this photo was taken on valentines’ day in san pedro sula. i am immensely grateful to the iwmf for the support, encouragement, resources, and community they offer to women journalists. my time in honduras was inspirational, challenging, and powerful. it is a complicated and beautiful country and i’m so glad i got to know it just a tiny bit better. thank you to everyone who we met there, and to the iwmf team and my fellow fellows. (the second picture here shows most of our team in san pedro. i miss you all immensely). #iwmf #iwmffellows #sanpedrosula #loveletter #bienvenidosamichoacán #honduras #journalism #photojournalism #videojournalism

This is @annaclarespelman , documentary filmmaker and photographer on my last day posting here. thanks for following along! in this video still, edwin leaves his home in barrio cabañas, san pedro sula. while not as dangerous as other parts of the city, it is also not the safest and edwin takes care when he comes and goes. he gets up in the dark most mornings to get to class on time. #iwmf #iwmffellows #adelante #sanpedrosula #honduras #sixteenbynine #videojournalism #photojournalism

This is @annaclarespelman, documentary filmmaker and photographer posting images and video from my #adelante fellowship to #honduras. while @cbauss and i spent a lot of time in banana fincas and learned so much, we also had the pleasure of spending time with edwin, a young g*y man from san pedro sula who was recently deported back to honduras after an attempt to cross into the us. edwin was hoping to reach his mother in colorado, but was stopped at the guatemala/mexico border and detained for five days in a detention center in mexico, where he received threats and was sexually harassed. edwin is a positive force; he studies law at the university in san pedro and has built a community of friends around him, despite a general anti-lgbt climate in honduras. like many in san pedro, edwin lost a family member to gang violence. his brother was murdered several years ago.
in these video stills, edwin sits for an interview with us in his room in barrio cabañas, and talks with his friend osman at dance floor, a g*y dance club in san pedro sula.#iwmf #iwmffellows #photojournalism #videojournalism #filmmaking #makeportraits
