A hip shift when squatting can cause knee pain, back pain, and unilateral underdevelopment. this shift often begins with lack of ankle mobility on one side. •
identify shift: put band behind your glutes and heels evenly apart. squat with equal tension on the band, if the band changes angle from one side you have a hip shift. •
intervene: with the same stance, put a plate under the ball of the foot you are shifting away from. squat as far as you can without lifting your heels and without shifting the band. •
reassess: remove the plate and check your squat groove. if the band angles/tension stay equal, you identified the bias and a possible solution to fix it!

Three types of mentalities make up most training clients: critical thinker, analytical processor, and dutiful proxy. •
the critical thinker requires the greatest amount of planning. they want justification and reasoning for the work they are doing. a trainer is required to strike anything off the program with red in that they are unsure of, knowing they will be questioned about those that may not have a purpose. when writing a program for your critical thinker, ensure that you have recorded and can align each exercise with the goals which have been mutually determined. this greatly builds value and trust in long term training relationships. •

Communication awareness amongst silent admirers: the body we see in the mirror isn’t the same view others have. those who take their bodies to an extreme degree of fitness often time only see faults, comparing themselves to a “once was” they believe is better than the right now, or someone who is in the kind of shape they wish for. this causes a lack of sensitivity toward those who are working very hard and wishing they looked like you. being tone deaf to your admirers and surroundings can run the risk of hurting the feelings of those who admire you, fit and diminishing your own health. though the intentions are probably positive, take notice of the silent followers you have and communicate cautiously. • before degrading yourself, think of something positive that you like or have worked for, and speak that truth instead. •
