Avocados for days
my boys do a weekly shop at the farmers market for @estabar_ which has been amazing for their confidence and growth but also for their life skills. like who grows the best avocados πŸ˜†πŸ‘¨πŸΌ‍πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨πŸ»‍πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨πŸΎ‍🌾.

we get a whole box every few weeks which means we can have this good looking basket on our bench for snacking, dip making and general meal improvement. they are so good just as is but the kids do like a half filled with #kimchi and @nzsalmon1 as afternoon tea.
.
they say it takes a village to raise a child a couldn’t agree more especially when they have the likes of @estabar_ @feedbackorganic @organicfeast.com.au @redbellygourmet @amberdrophoney @kombuchazest @mikorfarms @nzsalmon1 and @chouxpatisseriensw watching their backs at the markets each week and gently guiding them if their brotherly love has dipped a little 😬 .

Fermented turmeric paste.
this is so floral and earthy at the same time. there is an abundance of locally grown organic turmeric at the moment and, by fermenting it, i’m pressing pause on the season. .
this paste can be used in so many ways, the colour will develop as it ages more, turning a deeper orange. use sparingly and often.

Little helpers 🧚‍♂️ the best way to get your kids eating a wholesome diet...get them involved! from the garden (or the buying of fresh produce) to the dinner table.

they are never too young to start...begin by naming products, talk to them about the process, count the tblsp or cups together...and then when they are old enough they start to help in the handling and eventually chopping etc... today we made gluten free & refined sugar free, buckwheat muffins to put in the freezer for handy snacks throughout the week...definitely a favorite here!

i just love how nature has provided all these amazing colours and flavours for us to enjoy. it just seems crazy to be putting refined sugar and artificial flavours and colours into our food when we can find so much beauty and deliciousness in a natural form πŸŒˆπŸ“πŸ‘πŸ₯₯
these healthy popsicles are made from coconut water blended with either mango, raspberries or coconut cream- layered into an ice block mold. so easy!

Made little wholefood chocolate balls for the family a few days ago, after getting tired of spending $8 on a back of six from the supermarket. i thought i might share the recipe in case their were any other parents out there sick of paying large prices for these 🌿🍫blend 1/4 a cup of cashews enough to break them up, then add 2 tablespoons of cacao or cocoa powder (which ever you prefer) and 1 and 1/2 cups of pitted dates and blend together until mixture look of correct consistency. while mixture is still warm press tablespoon amounts together and roll into ball, set aside and once cooled serve

“my kids won’t eat that”
so often i see parents trying to introduce fermented foods to their kids by saying, “you can try it, but you won’t like it”. then they wonder why the kids won’t eat it πŸ€”
if your new to fermented foods or want to introduce it to your kids then make it special, make it something beautiful and something desired. let them ask to try it rather than making them eat a spoonful.

i found blending sauerkraut into dressings, or mixed into potato salads to be a really easy way to introduce the flavours without any effort. kimchi blended with cream cheese or cashew nuts is a great dip, or adding pickles to guacamole or hoummus works well.
you know they are getting probiotic rich food and they get to get used to the flavours slowly rather than in a bit hit.

I’m not sure why but some people are shocked when they hear i make everything from scratch at home. i guess between all the other things going on it can get a little crazy for time. but seriously? a 30 second breakfast (+ 10 minutes setting time - go get dressed!) is so convenient and ridiculously easy!!! strawberries & cream chia pudding with 4 ingredients. chia seeds, coconut milk, maple syrup and strawberries πŸ“ done! #wholefoodfamily #wholefoodmumma #easybreakfast

Only had half an hour to get lunch in today (rushing between holiday swimming lessons and going to the circus!) i was so tempted to stop and buy something for lunch. with school holidays i am totally out of my food gathering and prep routine so i totally felt like we had nothing at home to eat. turns out i was wrong!
yummy, full of nutrients and much cheaper than buying lunch out. and all made and eaten in 20 min ready for the circus!!!!

I'm realizing now that our oldest has started afternoon kindergarten (half day program), that this year is the last time that i will have s l o w mornings for the next 18 years! after next year, we will have a kiddo in full day school until the youngest one graduates.β €
