All three squats from yesterday opened with 783 was to far forward when i picked the weight but managed to salvage it. second was 821 lbs which was a 17 lb meet pr and third of 848.8 lbs 44lb meet pr since june. thanks to @mbslingshot @marksmellybell @jesseburdick for putting on a phenomenal meet definitely one i want to do again. very cool to squat in front of @stanefferding as the head judge as well.

1️⃣. sleep schedule 😴: this is basically a fact now after multiple studies have found that someone who sleeps more that 5 hours will gain more and faster muscle than someone who sleeps less.⁣

2️⃣. protein intake🥩: there can be arguments made that the base number could be higher or lower but a great first start is 1.0g p 1lb of bw. ✅⁣

3️⃣. eating more calories 🐖: if you currently aren’t gaining any weight and you feel you have everything else in check i can guarantee you this is what you are neglecting. now this does not mean you suddenly just see food eat food. there are still guidelines that need to be followed even with a caloric surplus. base your diet on whole, unprocessed, nutrition dense foods that will help achieve muscle growth. ⁣

4️⃣. progressive overload 🏋️‍♂️: you need to increase reps, sets and weight over time to keep the body from adapting and getting comfortable staying the same. the key to growth is continually forcing the body to grow so it can handle new loads.⁣

5️⃣. stay consistent, perfection is impossible to acquire. consistency over perfection any day of the week. life isn’t perfect and neither will you be. we all make mistakes, but the key is to not let those mistakes stop you from achieving what you want most. ⁣

Throwback vid from when i could actually use my arm🙄 sooo basically i think i’m cutting off circulation to my arm and that’s why it’s getting swollen/turning purple when i workout. time to focus on getting my body right and keeping up on my nutrition. i may get a massage as well this week so looking forward to that🤤 also, i think seeing a chiropractor is in my near future.. it’s time to fix this neck of mine no matter how terrified i am of getting adjusted😂 •

this has really set me back and has been soooo frustrating. i’m trying to focus on the positives though!! at least now i can put more energy into other areas of my life while i fix whatever is going on☺️

we all know that it is important for our health to exercise right? but did you know that government guidelines of physical activity not only specify how many minutes to exercise a week (it is 150mins fyi) but they also specify “and strength exercises on 2 or more days a week” - which many people are not aware of (including doctors and other health care professionals). so its not all about the cardio or endurance training, it’s important to flex those muscles too.

now this does not necessarily mean you have to hit the gym if you don’t want to, strength training is moving your body against any form of resistance - be a heavy barbell, body weight exercises, or farmers carrying your groceries home from tesco.

but why?

well, resistance training is not purely for building muscle or getting strong - of course it does that also (although it takes time fyi) but resistance training specifically (cardio aside) has so many other benefits including:
-it strengthens your bones, reducing your risk of osteoporosis and fractures later in life.
-improves pain, disability and quality of life in people who suffer with chronic lower back pain*
-can help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.
-can reduce the risk of heart disease and associated risk factors such as high blood pressure.
-can help improve blood glucose control and insulin sensitivity in people with type 2 diabetes. ... just to name a few. so if you want to do something big for your health, get lifting.

♠️ the plank is one of the most common core exercises out there, its easy to do, you can do it anywhere, it can be simplified for beginners and made harder for the more advanced.

♦️despite all the benefits of the plank, it won’t necessarily get you that six pack you are after. the plank can improve your core strength, improve posture, it can also help strengthen the back and reduce back pain.
.
♣️when you perform the plank, it’s working your entire core. there are however, other exercises that put greater emphasis on the six pack muscles. exercises such as different variations of crunches along with variations of leg raises are more superior in developing the aesthetic nature of your core muscles.
.
♥️not to forget that big compound lifts such as squats and deadlifts are going to help develop that rock solid core and six pack you are after, so don't dodge them.
.
🃏so to develop that six pack you are after, do some big compound movements. as well as doing some core moves such as the plank. but also throw in some other abdominal moves such as weighted crunches and hanging leg raises.
.
🎴all this is irrelevant however if you are not lean enough to reveal your abdominal muscles. you may well already have a six pack covered by a layer of fat.

instead of thinking of pushing or pulling a weight, try to focus on a full range of motion that creates constant tension on the working muscle

your job is to make sure that while performing reps your muscles do not take a break, it’s a constant process of stretching the muscle (the eccentric) and squeezing the muscle (the concentric)

while it’s not a hard rule, constant tension usually means stopping your lifts just short of lockout on the concentric portion (think of flexing your bicep), and then a little short of the “bottom” of the lift to maximize the stretch (when lowering the dumbbell or barbell to the point that you feel a stretch in your bicep, but not to where you lock out your elbow.)

in other words, it tends to be about 90 percent of range of motion on both ends, which ensures non-stop tension and an environment for building muscle

Video featured is his 3rd attempt ps is @marksmellybell eating a gogurt? • @ransonlee haven’t hit a deadlift pr since my second meet in 2017. so today was amazing. 694, 733 which was a pr and 766 lbs on my third giving me a 40ish lb meet or and 33 lb lifetime pr securing 2133lb total at 220 and 1 wilks point away from winning overall lifter to @doctor.deadlift who did incredible as usual yesterday.

pretty disappointed with my arm these last few days... still turning purple and swelling when i workout so i ended up just going a full ab and cardio day. might go see someone soon about it because i can’t keep cutting my workouts short from it😂 but i challenge you to look at the positives this week!! let’s slay another week of workouts/work/school/whatever it is you’re doing!!! have a happy sunday friends🥰
