Let’s talk stretch marks real quick. i know it’s a topic everyone hates to discuss but let’s do it anyways. let’s normalize these bad boys.

i began to get stretch marks in 4th grade, my stomach has always been my main source. i was growing, i was gaining and i was ashamed that i had stretch marks. why? why was a child ashamed for her body? i’ll tell you why. stretch marks were frowned upon. they meant you were “over weight” but little did i know stretch marks meant my body was growing quicker than my skin could catch up. my body was doing its job! over the years i have gained, i have lost. i have weighed a steady 200 lbs for years and then i have weighed 308 pounds until losing to 153. my body is forever stretching to make room for life, growing, adjusting. these marks have faded, came back and faded again. why should i be upset for getting marks that have been apart of my life for years, marks that show my body is changing, marks that everyone has. i have been told so many times this pregnancy “better get some bio oil” “make sure you use some lotion to avoid stretch marks” literally the only reason why i use lotion is to keep my stomach from being dry. stretch marks are genetic. you cannot stop them from forming just by slapping some lotion or oil on the problem area. your body is doing what it is supposed to do! so today, i am proud of these marks for assisting in my forever growing and changing body. these are nothing to be upset or ashamed of and i refuse to be anything but positive toward them🐯

Lately i’ve been practicing body acceptance. but it hasn’t been easy. some days i look in the mirror and love my body for what it is and other days it’s the opposite.

i have to be careful of the negative self talk especially around my two daughters. it’s not only little eyes watching but it’s little ears hearing.

i have to cut myself some slack and not be so judgemental about how my stomach looks after losing 50lbs and being pregnant twice. my body has been through a lot.

this weightloss journey has opened up so much more for me than just losing weight. this has been more of a self discovery journey and i’m grateful for the friends i’ve made along the way. and i’m excited to continue on and watch myself grow and learn. ✨

My lunch today: 😍

chocolate h**p protein,chia pudding.

2x spoons of chia seeds soaked over night with a scoop of my chocolate h**p protein powder (by planet food) and almond milk.

couple of handfuls of frozen mango blended, couple of drops of almond milk.

greek yoghurt. as you can see i layered it and it is, well was super yummy. if i could my first preference would be coconut yoghurt.

but good super foods, plus high protein, and i got my sweet fill from mango.

you can do this with mixed berries to make lower carb, lower sugar. but i'm just happy none of my food is processed, so i don't mind too much with mango, as my mind set isnt so much about keto, but low carb, low sugar and whole plant based diet.

if i’m being honest with you, i hardly exercised at the beginning of my journey - i mean, i wish i had found weightlifting earlier but really all i did was track my eating and learn more about balanced nutrition.

carbs do not make you gain weight... in fact, my diet mostly consists of carbs.
carbs = energy.
i just like to make sure i’m eating complex carbs: i eat lots of sweet potato, oats, fruits, brown rice!!! yummmm.

and i do not spend hours a day on the treadmill / stairmaster.
in fact, when i do too much cardio i worry about losing my hard-earned muscle.

yes, cardio has a place! it’s great for your heart and is good for f*t loss.

i personally do cardio about 3 times a week and usually with an arm day because i burn less calories overall than when i do legs!

cardio for me usually looks like intervals.
20 mins of stairs at one minute high and one minute low, and repeat.

sometimes i do intervals and then add minutes where i skip a step.
or i’ll do a consistent increase of moderate, high, sprint, rest, continue.

whatever it is i keep it exciting and i keep it short.

short bursts of high intensity intervals a couple times a week are all your heart and body really need.

on that note though, if running is your meditation or you find cardio amazing for your mental health - do it.

please remember, a health journey should be about you and your happiness first.

if you’re doing and eating things you hate just to fit a certain standard of beauty, it wont last.

take it slow, figure out what your body vibes with and what makes you happy.

it took me almost three years to get where i am today, but i loved the process of healing - of getting to know myself.

begin embracing the process and embracing learning and this whole experience will change.

embrace the process and respect slow progress 👏🏼🙌🏼💖 .

French onion chicken and gravy 🤤

2 lbs chicken b****t sliced into 14 mostly even pieces 🐓
2 yellow onions
1 container of sliced white mushrooms
1 can of low sodium chicken broth
2 tbsp flour
7 slices of swiss cheese 🧀

in a large skillet, sauté the onions and mushrooms with spray oil and salt, cooking until browned. remove from pan. add 2 lbs of chicken cut into 14 even pieces to the pan and brown on each side. remove from pan. add 1 can of chicken broth and 2 tbsp of flour, whisking as you add the flour to create a gravy. once the liquid has thickened, add the mushrooms and onions back to the pan. place the browned chicken into the gravy mixture. add one slice of swiss cheese on top of 2 pieces of chicken creating 7 servings total. cover and allow cheese to melt. plate and serve as desired.

Finally!!! i have been working on my mindset at the gym. i got to a place where i found myself going through the motions and not pushing myself. instead i would convince myself i wasn’t strong enough to push heavier weights or do a pull-up. in this video i’m more talking to myself than i am joey. i have to tell myself i can do it and then imagine myself doing it.
today was the first day ever i was able to pull myself up. my unassisted pull up is almost there!!!! i love how @joey_fresh_handz is so encouraging and pushing me.

i wondered for years how people did it. how did these busy women take time out of their already busy day just to workout? or to make their food before their busy week ahead?

i thought for sure there was this secret, that i didn’t know about. they had some knowledge that i didn’t. turns out, it’s a decision that they made (and myself now as well) to choose their health first.

it doesn’t mean that these women were “less busy” or didn’t have a full time job, kids to tend to, a meal to cook once they got home for their family. it just means it meant enough for them to change.

i used to say “i wish there was some magic pill for me to lose weight and then i’ll be happy”. so far from the truth. the weight loss in result of my lifestyle change, of course, was a huge part but so was the hard work and discipline i was able to prove to myself i had.

i feel so much better. i have so much more energy. i want to be more involved and present in my life. and that’s what fuels me to keep going every single day. because i’ve been where you are sister, and i’ve seen the other side. in this case the grass is greener!😉

Beef cabbage soup!

serves 8 in 35 mins

ingredients-

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion chopped
1 pound 500 grams rib eye or scotch fillet steak, cut into 1-inch pieces (trimmed of visible fat)
1 stalk celery chopped
2 large carrots peeled and diced **optional**
1 small green cabbage chopped into bite-sized pieces
4 cloves garlic minced
6 cups beef stock or broth
3 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley plus more to serve
2 teaspoons each dried thyme and dried rosemary (or dried basil and oregano)
2 teaspoons onion or garlic powder
salt and freshly-cracked black pepper to taste

instructions-
.
heat oil in a large p*t over medium-heat, add the beef and sear one all sides until browned all over (they don't need to be cooked through). then add the onions and cook until transparent (about 3-4 minutes).
add the celery and carrots to the pan, mixing through the flavours in the pot. cook while mixing occasionally for about 3-4 minutes, then add the cabbage and cook for a further 5 minutes until beginning to soften; add in the garlic, and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute), mixing all ingredients through.
add the stock (or broth), parsley, dried herbs, and onion or garlic powder; mixing well. bring to a simmer; reduce heat to medium-low and cover, with a lid.
allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cabbage and carrots are soft. season with salt and pepper, and add in a little extra dried herbs, if needed.
serve warm with a sprinkle of fresh parsley (if desired).
