I was so excited to touch down in india after leaving 16 months prior.
.
i swear the young girl beside me thought i was a crazy lady as i was telling her how much it meant to me to be back in the country that i love with all my heart.
.
i remember walking out the airport doors into the all too familiar stares from men, others asking me if i needed a taxi & the ridiculous prices they wanted to charge me to get where i wanted to go. oh, india!
.
the taxi ride from the airport to my hotel in chandigarh had me feeling all the feels. i rolled down my window & took in all the familiar things as well as the new.
.
everything from the hazy skies, trucks loaded insanely high full of all kinds of things, half built buildings everywhere, motorbikes everywhere, fruit stands & chai stalls, the smells, the cows owning the roads & the little vendors set up on every corner selling peanuts or other snacks & kids playing in the streets.
.
i noticed that there were so many beautiful trees which were different to where i once lived. less people compared to kolkata which i liked a lot & the place was so much more organized. the other thing i realized right away was that i was in the land of turbans & punjabi music. ha! i’ve never seen so many turbans in my life and well, i love the music so i was happy.
.
india is a very hard place to describe to people that have never been. a lot of times i don’t even have words to describe it but rather so many emotions. rich in history, culture, food & much more, india is a sensory overload.
.
india is also the place we added our third son to our family and for that reason alone india will always be so close to my heart.
.
i couldn’t help but sit in that taxi on the way to my hotel and have my eyes well with tears. not of sadness but with such an overwhelming feeling of thankfulness in my heart that i was back in the place i love so much. it was everything i’d hoped for. full of nostalgia and many new memories to take away.
.
i have a long list of new countries i want to travel to with my family but i can’t wait for the day i am back in india again exploring new places & making new memories. this country has my heart 100%.
