Let’s talk about my training routine today 💁‍♀️ most of you guys think i train my legs very often, but actually i only train them two times a week 🤷‍♀️ my legdays always contain a high volume so two times is enough for me! i do at least tree upper body workouts combined with abs: one week i do two push and one pull sesh and the other week i do two pull and one push sesh. lately i’ve been doing some cardio too every time i hit the gym (yes also on legdays 🔥). i have one active restday where i do about an hour of cardio and one complete restday where i don’t hit the gym at all. this has been my routine for months now and i absolutely love it! i’m getting stronger every week, consistency is everything! 🙆‍♀️

back in 2014 you could find me on a cardio machine or in a yoga class sweating away to be able to “splurge” on peanut butter or some extra cereal for the day....
i would restrict certain food groups in fear of gaining weight or “getting bigger.” the scale was something i always turned to for accountability and i soon began to develop an unhealthy exercise routine...

Being a mum is by far the hardest thing i have ever done (and the most rewarding ❤️) and #mumlife has really kicked my b**t lately!

since last week i have been dealing with baby's first cold and double ear infection. this poor little thing is sniffly and snuffly, wheezy and sneezy. and fussy. so fussy. his ears hurt but he can't understand why his body is not being nice to him. he has been a little ball of lethargic, cuddly magic.

i got a sore throat too but who cares? there are no sick days when you’re a mom. right? 😬

plus we don't live near our village anymore. we don't have our parents down the street from us like our parents had when they became moms and dads. our parents are almost 10000 miles away and my sister lives 2000 miles away. during days like these when the three of us are sick, i really wish we had a village nearby to mother the mother.

that being said we are so fortunate that we are building a village of our own here with friends and baby sitters. 😀that's true. it's hard to find a good caretaker for your baby. since my husband and i have a full-time job, we decided to keep the baby at home for a week or two with a nanny instead of sending him to daycare. babies recover faster when they are in the comfort of their homes and not exposed to any new infection.

he melts in my arms as soon as i get back home from work.
i have not worked out in 2 weeks and i know that all these things will wait for me but one day, my baby won’t be little and cuddly no more
so i gave myself permission to stop feeling guilty about all the things i “should be doing” and instead every day i cuddle my little one a little longer ❤️

Today has been exhausting: emotionally, mentally and physically. ⠀⠀
however, i’m so grateful to be feeling so different than i did even 12 hours ago. i feel more at peace, less anxious, and like i’ve let go of a lot of emotional weight. more than ever i am so grateful for the time i have been putting into my self care. and i don’t mean going for a massage or a pedicure to relieve some stress. i mean making myself a complete priority and filling my cup every single day intentionally. it has changed me completely for the better. ⠀⠀
the following is something i wrote a year ago & popped up on my fb memories. it literally aligns perfectly with today as well. ⠀⠀
11/12/18: ⠀⠀
there are times when you can’t stop having all of the thoughts. ⠀⠀
sometimes your soul reaches out and tells you to slow down; take the time to process all of the emotion & the feelings you are experiencing. ⠀⠀
so many exciting chapters are starting. so many new friends & adventures. taking the big risks with only your intuition to guide you.
⠀⠀
sometimes… it’s too much all at once, and you need to stop to address the things, or people, you are moving forward from. ⠀⠀
give these items the attention they need.
⠀⠀
make peace with them & where they stand in your life now. ⠀⠀
let go of the past, the hurts, and the trauma.
⠀⠀
let go of the friends who may not physically be in your life anymore, but will always be a part of who & what you are today. ⠀⠀
give in to this moment right now. acknowledge it, feel it, and then let it go. ⠀⠀
tomorrow you keep moving forward into your new reality. ⠀⠀

no gym for me today because fieldwork/school priorities and that’s ok! i finished my presentation early, i have my notes, and i’m ready for bed before 11pm😴 a miracle in itself, really.

got a workout in with my mans @joebar1995 yesterday. (wearing my @1stphorm military tee obvs🇺🇸) heavy leg day and hiit sprints on the treadmill🏃🏼‍♀️i was able to pull 235# sumo deadlift for 3 yesterday. still feel weak but can’t complain since i haven’t pulled sumo in a long time since i’ve been pulling conventional recently. my main focus is losing f*t so i’m happy to be pulling somewhat heavy while in a deficit 🏋🏼‍♀️

need to work on my running endurance. more importantly, my running endurance in this cold as s**t weather we’re having☃️🥶 going to gear my workouts more towards endurance in the next week to prepare for the spartan.

this random old picture of macarons is beautiful (shoutout daylight savings i’m having to ration my pics with good lighting😭) but not the point of this post. although they were the best macarons i’ve ever had - kind of a low bar though, my friends & i have tried to make macarons so many times and always fail 😂
on a more serious note... i’ve felt a lot of emotions toward my eating disorder. i’ve felt safe in it. i’ve been scared of it. i’ve loved it, i’ve hated it, i’ve questioned if it exists, i’ve straight up denied it. but i’ve never really felt angry about it. which makes sense, i guess, because i’m not much of an angry person.
but lately, i’ve been kinda mad. i’ve been really liking gymnastics lately & getting closer with my team, which obviously is great. but it’s brought up some thoughts.
because gymnastics isn’t going to be forever. it’s going to be 2.5 more years at most, which is really scary because it makes me so happy. and this is where i get angry - because due to my ed, i never really reached my full potential. maybe if it wasn’t for that, i could be good enough by now to have a shot at college gymnastics. and i’m angry that i completely wasted a season - really two. and i could continue to never be the best i could be if i wasn’t choosing recovery.
i feel this way now about a lot of things in my life. my ed took so many amazing friendships way from me. it caused such a strain on my family and ruined so many vacations. and that makes me mad.
but there’s no point in just sitting here and being angry, because there’s nothing i can do about things that are in the past.
however, i can control my future (at least in terms of this). i can refuse to let my ed take anything else away from me and choose recovery every day, no matter how hard it is sometimes.
you can go to all the doctors & therapists and get all the inpatient & residential and do minnie maud & ensures and what have you as much as you want, but if you really want to recover, you have to really just decide one day that your ed has taken too much away from you and promise yourself that you won’t let it take any more. and then you have to work for it.

Anyone ever short on time during the day? i know i sure am! my workouts are a must, but most importantly, how i refuel afterwards is even more critical. most of the time i am hustling out of the gym to get on with my day, and i’m always thankful for my @questnutrition quest bars because i am able to get a good post workout snack in. pro tip: keep a box handy in your car and you will always be able to feed those muscles after a good workout. quest bars have been my go to since day 1 of my fitness journey. cookie dough never lets me down! these protein bars have equal parts protein/carbohydrates which is one reason why i love them so much (besides the fact that they taste so good). i’ve been able to stay consistent with my diet/fitness regimen thanks to the help of @questnutrition . go hit those goals, y’all!

Monday was a doozy. #armday
i’ve been feeling so strong since starting my new routine, and i’m getting my sets quicker with (what seems like) fewer rests- but i’m still not hitting new pr’s like i’d hoped. until monday. #upperbodyday i needed a win, so my trainer added those super cute little 2.5lb weights so my bar... i got it up. 😂 so my bench went from 115# to 120#. 💪🏽 #illtakethatwin #alittleprogressisstillprogress it was #strugglebuscity getting it up, so i didn’t attempt more.
i finished my torturous chest pyramid sets and then ran upstairs to do some of the #bodysculpt classes monopoly workout. made it around the board once, even after going to jail (which sent me almost back to the beginning), before my childcare time was up. #yayforcardio #cardioishardio #ihatecardio 😂

Throwback & real talk: ⁣

being over weight isn’t any easier to overcome than being under weight. ⁣
disorders are disorders regardless of what shape, size, or gender you are. ⁣

6 years ago, i was the girl that idolized skinny. 85 ish pounds. never seeing a skelton that i was. ⁣

people always say, “i’d never let myself get to be like that”. truth is no one intends to.⁣ no one wakes up one day saying, “hey let me see what false statements i can make myself believe”. ⁣

that girl 6 years ago, i’m not mad at. i’m not ashamed of. in fact i’m proud of.⁣

see that girl became the girl who now has a glow. ⁣
the girl who gets to inspire others around.⁣
the girl who can tell people it does get better. ⁣

you have to know your breaking point though. & it’s not someone’s place to tell you when that is. it’s not someone’s comment saying, “you should eat less” or “you could just eat a hamburger like a normal person”.⁣

everyone deals with their inner voices differently. & unless you’ve been in a similar situation you’ll never understand them. ⁣

you’ll never get their fear of a battery operated digital number on a glass screen. ⁣
you’ll never get their mind saying they can’t eat the dessert. ⁣
you’ll never understand the satisfaction on being able to manipulate their body when things in their life are out of their control. ⁣

you can’t say you get it because you don’t, & honestly i hope you never do get to understand it. ⁣

there are many days, periods of time or circumstances that i don't feel confident. i often deal with imposter syndrome, always thinking others are better or know more than i do.
.
the benefit to this issue is that i'm willing to listen and learn from others, and often i realize that i actually know just as much as them if not more. but if that's not the case, then i'm able to learn from them and become better! 😁
.
i am confident however that i still have much to learn in all areas of life, and i think that it's healthy to admit we don't know what we don't know. the important part is what do do you do with that realization...go figure it out? or ignore it.

2013- about a month after giving birth to my son. i was running excessively and definitely not eating enough. the thought of missing a long run would give me anxiety and i wouldn’t admit to anyone that i was restricting my calories. i pretty much only ate fruit, meal replacement shakes and oatmeal and some days wouldn’t even eat dinner.

2019- boy how my mentality has changed. i now eat several whole food meals a day and i don’t run at all. just weight training and steady state cardio as prescribed. cardio time depends on if i am prepping for a show or not and i only do my cardio walking on incline treadmill or stair master.

i used to be one of those people that wanted to be “toned” but not lift heavy because i would be “too bulky”. i had a lot to learn. this physique took almost 5 years to build (started lifting in 2015). it wasn’t an easy road either. i had to work out some kinks along the way. january 2018 is when i swallowed my pride and hired a coach and that’s when my progress really skyrocketed! it can only get better from here!

Holy legs day!!! i have a really bad knee. my left knee has had two surgeries, one was a year ago, the other was i think three and half years ago. there is very little cartilage left in that knee and i was told a year ago not to squat, not to lift heavy and to give up the idea of competing...as you can tell i’m a perfect patient 😜🙄🤫
i’m stubborn and i’m driven and asking me to give up on a goal or a dream is like asking me to become a horse when i was born a unicorn🤣🤣! i know my work with comes with consequences and i will require a full replacement of my left knee sooner rather than later. just what i have to look forward to.
some days are easier than others. today was rough. in the last video my lower-leg just went completely numb and i had to sit down instead of stand up 🤦🏻‍♀️ i switched it up and adapted my workout to things i could do relatively pain-free and with lighter weight than usually just using @cakeybums resistance bands.
i don’t know how to back off or slow down. just not in my make-up. i’m all or nothing! -

Recently i’ve been finding it hard to make time for this account. i’m in 7 courses in university with 23 hours of class every week. most of my meals are eaten out of tupperware or meal prepped and then thrown in a bowl. i’ve struggled to find the time to make things worth posting, and to be honest, i’m kind of okay with it. my camera roll is filling up with pictures of friends and memories and the life i’m truly enjoying living. don’t get me wrong, i love this account and i still love this community but it’s not my top priority. i may not post a lot or be super active but i hope to be back full force in a month (!!) when the semester is over 💕

Hi all! i hope you are all having a great start to the week! so far my week has been pretty good even though i’m very stressed. but i’m just taking everything one step at a time, trying to overwork myself bc i don’t want to crash before finals. i can crash after finals. i went home last weekend which was super nice and relaxing 😊 i had pizza one night and veggie kabobs the other night 👅. i also took my driving test but i failed. i was so upset at myself that i started bawling at the dmv😢. i’m a dumb b***h and i rolled thru a stop sign and then it was completely over for me😕😕😕. i have a formal this upcoming thursday and i’m so excited! i have a dress that i feel super confident and hot in so i’m excited. but i have no date which is sad for me but i’ve never had a date lmaoooo maybe next semester. probably not.

Crossfit open is over...results are in and i didn’t hit my goal which was to make top third in the world but darn close. i learned so much and have so much more to learn. i’m really happy with how i did. not super happy to see how many ugly faces i make though 🤣

for those who asked last time. the s beside the score means i did the scaled version of the workout because there was something i couldn’t do. (muscle ups, double unders as an example) you can see the difference the scaled makes. there were 11,944 women in my age group. next years goals are no scaled workouts and top third. .

Transformation tuesday!!!⁣

i am super shocked at my 100 day results! shocked, because i was not perfect with my nutrition. it was real life and sustainable! from turnip hashbrowns and salads to pumpkin beer and nachos. eating 80/20 was key (where 80% of what i eat was healthy and clean, and 20% i didn’t stress!)⁣

workouts were consistent... but only 18-30 mins daily. i mean, how can i count on real results with that short of time frame?⁣

but this program, this plan.... it was about small, manageable steps that compounded over time. it’s about a lifestyle i could maintain!⁣

What is your priority #1? 🤔 anyone ever feel like your work/or your family is the most important thing in the world?

i used to think that my work was for sure. 👩‍💻 i always prioritized my school work when i was in university. i would frequently work 12 hours straight without getting up or eating, or pausing to take a breath of fresh air. i would go weeks without working out or moving my body in any significant way which is pretty sad.

we are supposed to move our bodies!! 🏃‍♀️ we shouldn't be sitting for 8 hours of the day!! ❌ make sure to get up and take frequent breaks, go for walks to get a bit of exercise and appreciate the nature, and/or chat with a colleague or a friend! your priority #️⃣1️⃣ should be you! i get in my workouts every morning because it's my favourite way to start the day! 🤸‍♀️🏋️‍♀️ get those endorphins going, sweat out the toxins, increase blood flow and oxygen intake, and calm the mind! perfect to set up my work day! i'm still sometimes guilty of sometimes focusing too much on work and not letting myself take a 30 mins walking break on busy days. the more we move our bodies and make it a habit, the better we will feel mentally and physically! we'll be able to show up as our best selves for our families and be even more productive at work! 😊😁

If i could give you one tip to help you be healthier, it’s to stop stressing over the little details about what’s “best” for your training results and instead start focusing on what’s most practical to your lifestyle that allows for consistent adherence. 🤗⁣

too often we get stuck and overwhelmed with the small details as we try to make ourselves a plan that can bring us the “best” results. ⁣

“should i be eating 3 big meals or 6 small ones?”🤔⁣
“what time should i start and stop eating?”⁣
“what supplements should i take?”⁣
“how much vegan soy free gluten free carb free paleo cbd infused keto friendly cookies should i eat?”🙄⁣

these are all examples of things that don’t matter as much as people are led to believe. and i believe this happens partly because of how we are bombarded with flashy “fitness info” on social media platforms with headlines telling us “x is the best way to see results”⁣

but realistically, fitness isn’t as flashy as the media makes it out to be. 🤷🏻‍♀️⁣

there’s no secret or magic method. it’s all consistency and hard work, day in and day out. you have to focus on the basics and fundamentals and find the balance between what works for you and your lifestyle. ⁣

want to lose fat? understand energy balance and how to be in a calorie deficit first before spending $100 on unnecessary supplements or worrying about meal timing. ⁣

want to build muscle? before jumping into a 7 day/week workout program based on your spur of the moment motivation, take a careful look at your lifestyle and find a training frequency that’s realistic for you. ⁣

while there are definitely factors in our trading or nutrition that could be more optimal, aiming for perfection isn’t always the way to get results. ⁣

getting the basics down is the most important yet people overlook them. it’s easier to believe some magic supplement is going to fix your problems and get you results than actually tracking your calories and being consistent with your training. 🤦🏻‍♀️⁣

nail the basics, be consistent, and find your balance. and boom, the magic will happen. 💥⁣
