A conversation i frequently have with my clients is a chat about what they are doing post work out🤔 ⁣

i like to use the analogy that our body is like a car 🚘 when we are the gym we burn fuel ⛽️⁣

afterwards it is important to fuel our body with a quality protein source and carbohydrate source so that we can put fuel back into the car to repair/build tissue -> 💪🏽 muscle ⁣

post work out i use a hydrolyzed whey + fast digesting carb source so that i am able to put the ⛽️ back into the 🚘 (aka my body) since i don’t normally have a meal immediately after the gym i prioritize getting in high quality pro pro + carbs. ⁣

my current staple is magical charms flavored phormula-1 + a 1/2 scoop of ignition 🤤⁣

when i tell you it taste like the bottom of a bowl of lucky charms i am not lying to you 😤⁣

Symmetry doesn’t exist. we all have a dominant side and minor strength & muscle imbalances. it’s normal.
.
however, if your training is highly unbalanced, you could be feeding into these natural asymmetries and putting yourself at risk of injury. it’s very common amongst gym goers and a dominant reason why aches, pains, stiff joints and tight muscles are ‘the norm’.
.
3️⃣ things you can do to prevent this happening:
.
1️⃣ base your training on movement patterns not individual muscle groups.
.
📝 squat, hinge, lunge/split stance, upper push, upper pull (horizontal & vertical plane).
.
exercises from these categories should form the base of your training. isolation work should be sprinkled in secondary to this.
.
2️⃣ do plenty of core, hip and shoulder stability work.
.
📝 for the core, don’t forget any of the 3 primary categories: anti-extension, anti-lateral flexion, anti-rotations. for the shoulders, go to town on external rotation work, lower trap work and scapula / rotator cuff stability drills. for the hips, do some work for your hip flexors, lateral glutes (abductors) and inside leg (adductors) ... these muscles tend to get neglected.

3️⃣ program unilateral and offset loading periodically.
.
📝 if you’re married to the barbell, you may be favoring your dominant side. using dumbbells forces both sides of your body to work independently. program lots of single leg and single arm exercises like split squats, lateral lunges, single arm press and single arm rows. alternating presses are fantastic also. offset loading is another method that provides unique challenges to one side of the body.

If you feel low-back discomfort while doing the overhead press, it is worth looking into the position of your pelvis. if your pelvis tilts anteriorly (see donald duck b**t position on the left video), you arch your back more and excessively stress the low-back while doing overhead presses.
-
a simple way to fix an arched back during the overhead press is by squeezing your glutes and engaging your abs. this provides better support for your low-back and helps you maintain a stable upper body. swipe left to see a visual that shows what i mean by "squeezing the glutes".

now, this does not mean that any rounding of the low-back is inherently "bad". it is normal to maintain the natural curve of the spine (as you see in the video). but try to limit your back from rounding much more than that to protect your low-back.

For the first time in ages, i woke up feeling refreshed at my 6am alarm, even after staying up to watch i’m a celeb. this weekend was pretty chill, yet productive and between getting enough sleep, finally doing a non-stop run and finally getting round to sorting my room out (de cluttered room = de cluttered mind) i had plenty of energy to head to the gym and smash another full body workout. i thought i’d miss doing body splits, but full body puts less stress on my legs at any one time, keeping them fresher for runs, and gives me a bit more flexibility on the number of workouts i do, which is good for my mental health as it feels pressure free #growth #gym #workout #fitness #fit #fitnessmotivation #energy #runner #ukrunner #healthandfitness #strengthtraining #strongnotskinny #strengthandconditioning #fullbodyworkout #weights #mondayworkout #mondaymotivation #mentalhealth

por isso eu sempre digo, enquanto as pessoas não entenderem e respeitarem que a prática de treinamento de força (musculação, funcional) requer um processo baseado em progressões que vão do simples para o complexo, maior será a exposição e o risco de lesão.

Are you getting the most out of your bicep curls?

while this is a relatively simple exercise compared to some, attention to detail is still key.
_
as you can see in the first example- although the bar seems to go all the way down, the elbow is still not straight at the bottom, which means the bicep isn’t moving through it’s full range of motion. full rom means the bicep is under maximum stretch at the bottom, which will cause more muscular damage (the part we need for growth) compared to the shorter range.
_
again, you will likely have to drop the weight to avoid using momentum, but the tension placed on the target muscle will be greater.

How do you build a client so that they are hitting 25 reps at 90% of their 1rm s****h in 15 mins with no misses?

individualised design.

oscar went to school cos one day he wants a real job.

stress went ⬆️

training volume went ⬇️

we amended things so that his programming fits around his school work and that has shifted to being his priority.

any coach needs to build the understanding of how our autonomic nervous system works. all your life stressors go into the same organism (you) that your training goes into. it’s all just stress to be adapted too.

so be flexible and amend your training based around what is happening in your life.

Starting the week with some strength training. one of my favorite single leg exercises - bulgarian split squat. this exercise is tough but very beneficial. it gives you a better range of motion, overloads the quads and glutes, recruits your stabilizer muscles, builds up strength in core muscles, utilizes balance and knee strength and reduces muscle imbalance. remember this exercise is intended to target your front leg—your back leg is there to offer some balance support, but the engagement and the "burn" should be felt primarily in your front leg, particularly the quadriceps of your front leg.

Chest press with 110lbs rpe 9ish. i have a love and hate relationship with dumbbells chest and shoulder press, although i am strong in pressing exercises, but that comes at a cost😅. the stronger it get through out my shoulders then to get overused and starts paining. since past 3 weeks doing doing dumbbell chest press only once a week. another time relying on machine press. .

Motivation... it will get you started, ignite the flame that will get you in the door. but sooner or later, you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact that you can’t sustain it for longer term.

why?

because when you are motivated, it is a state of emotion, you begin by imagining yourself at your goal and you envision steady progress that moves upward towards your goal. the actually journey and timeline isn't really clear to you at this point.

this causes you to make that big leap towards the thing you want and rightly so.

somewhere down the line, the timeline rears its true head and you see things for what they are. it takes longer than you imagined, and progress isn't a steady upward graph, it's all full of ups and downs.

motivation cannot get you through this. but you know what will? grit and tenacity will. remember it is just as hard to break a good habit as it to break a bad one!

so show up, at your best, at your worst, do what you can with what you have and you’ll soon form a steely singular mindset that will just not yield!

stop depending on motivation all the time, instead learn to develop grit and tenacity. it's more effective in the long run!

to reduce body fat... you just take in less energy than your body burns on a day to day basis... this is what we call calorie deficit
.
there are no 'fat burning foods', 'body type diets' and you don't need to cut certain foods or food groups
.
eat the foods you enjoy
plenty of vegetables, whole foods and protein whilst consuming less energy than you burn 🙌🏻

”big squatters have big asses” som nån sa. well, då är det väl lika bra att jag och mitt a*s går till gymmet och jobbar på det ikväll🍑😈🏋🏼‍♂️jag har börjat köra 5:or i alla lyften igen med veckovis ökning; lite back to basics nu när jag förstått ett och annat om styrkelyft 6 månader efter start! jag ska köra tyngre 5:or med bättre teknik & ihärdighet så ska det nog börja hända lite med styrkan! min newbie gains har egentligen stagnerat någongång i augusti, inte ökat mycket alls den dess och det känns både onödigt och fel med tanke på hur ny jag är i den här sporten! några andra bra tips?

6 weeks left of 2019 and what a year it’s been so far.

• winning england’s strongest woman u82.
•qualifying for worlds strongest woman.
•placing 3rd at britain’s strongest woman.
•qualifying for the arnold’s 2020.

big year next year all goals are set arnold’s in march then back to defend my title of england’s strongest woman and hopefully then on the road to britain’s strongest woman again.

having goals set is so important for me i have to have something in sight to work towards it keeps me focused.
