we will be discussing how best to recover following both a vaginal and cesarean delivery, how to rehabilitate your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles especially if you are experiencing urinary leakage, prolapse and abdominal separation. we will also talk about safely returning to exercise, looking after your back and pelvis, how to manage mastitis; as well as addressing any concerns about having s*x post birth! .

as you know, over the last few years much of my focus has moved over to women’s health. i now specialise in working with busy, high performing women (often mums) in a number of areas including fatigue & exhaustion, hormonal balance and weight loss. .

Good morning! ok i had some thoughts when i got home from work last night

so ok there are 4 p’s in labor, have you heard of them?! the 4 p’s play a major role in your labor curve, like how you will progress in labor…

the 4 p’s are power, passage, psyche, passenger

last night i had the idea that these 4 p’s in labor continue on into the fourth trimester 🤸🏼‍♀️so! let me explain

1. power: we still need the strength of your u****s to contract to prevent bleeding and to begin the involution process. this process is the u****s shrinking down to its normal pre-pregnancy~ it takes about 6 weeks. you may notice the power of the u****s contracting when your nurse 🙋🏼‍♀️ pushes down on the top of your u****s to check for bleeding or when you feel cramping during the first couple days of breastfeeding

2. passage: the pelvis~ we don’t pay enough attention to pelvic floor muscles or talk about it enough during postpartum but ok we should because you know what, the pelvic floor is what holds up our core and supports our lower body! it’s so important! i think every woman should have a physical therapy session to tune into your pelvic floor during the fourth trimester and prenatally for that matter (insurance usually covers)

3. psyche: maternal mental health. the fourth trimester is so very emotional ❤️there is a surge of increasing and decreasing hormones as soon as your baby and placenta are born. be mindful of how you feel mentally. know your resources and support. dads too

4. passenger: just like in labor, the passenger is your baby, just now born <3

I used to play the violin when i was a child but gave it up because it seemed boring. i had no understanding of the social context of music and how it can deeply affect us. so recently i decided it was time to start again, you are after all never to old to start. so i borrowed a violin, but mostly it’s sat there. all the while overwhelm has been building up in my life. so much to do it seems. no time for me! but recently i have been trying to lift my mood, slow down and make time for some of the things i want to learn, some of the play i want to do. yes i admit i am pretty rubbish but when i managed to play ‘mary had a little lamb’ with no mistakes today i felt pretty good. music is essential for self care, learning, playing, singing, listening and for moving our bodies, shaking off stale emotions. supposedly when gregorian monks stopped doing their famous chanting there started to be increased levels of depression in the order so they brought them back in. for new mums it can be hard to find time to let music in, but babies love your singing. if you play an instrument let it soothe your tired emotional self. listen to a favourite album to remind you of you. make the time for music. #42daysofselfcare #selfcarematters #selfcare #nevertooldtolearn #music #learningviolin #postnatal #postnatalwellbeing #postpartum #hobby #playmusic

Matrescence!! sounds like adolescence right?! 🤸🏼‍♀️well, same idea. although, matrescence is the stage of life when a woman becomes a mother

adolescence is a vulnerable time for teens. hormones are flying, menstrual cycles are beginning ❤️, human bodies are changing and developing and self-identity is taking place

mom’s can you relate?

so here is the thing, women are diagnosed with mental health issues like postpartum “blues” or postpartum depression during this vulnerable stage of their lives, the fourth trimester 🤸🏼‍♀️but it seems like much of the symptoms women have are often similar to how adolescence feel

symptoms include but not limited to worried wont be able to care for baby, poor concentration, easily irritated, emotional, preoccupied with appearance, fatigue

if we talk about the reality of motherhood and fatherhood and plan ahead to support, energize and heal women (and men) maybe, just maybe baby blues and postpartum depression would dissipate and instead, moms and dads would feel more settled and less overwhelmed with all the new changes going on that predisposing them to postpartum depression

Not sure whether to laugh, cry or scream.

i find myself in a s****y situation this morning!
my very helpful son took little bros diaper off. who then proceeded to poop(runny stuff) all over my carpeted living room. walk through it and wander around the house while mom was attempting to wash dishes.
maybe this is the universe paying me back for taking an hr to grocery shop alone last night.
730 am is an acceptable time to start drinking right?!? asking for a friend...

Warm sprout salad... a taste of autumn and spark of excitement for christmas.

i love sprouts… especially now they’ve been bred to be sweeter. has anyone else noticed? i use to like them but these were noticeably sweet and very morish (yes i did just use morish to describe brussel sprouts!).
.
.
now this dish also makes use of the persimmon (also know as sharon fruit) that arrived in my @abelandcole box. this is actually the first time i’ve come across persimmons - i’m sure all of my us followers will be shocked but this autumn fruit aren’t very popular in the uk. it added a nice touch of sweetness to the dish that helped balance the salty bacon. .
.
all you need:
some sprouts - outer layer removed and quartered
3-4 rations streaky smoked bacon (chopped)
handful pecans
olive oil
seasoning
1 sharon fruit
.
.
all you do (for baked):
1. preheat oven to 180c
2. toss the sprout and bacon in olive oil, salt and pepper and place them in the oven for 30 minutes.
3. adding the pecans and place back in the oven for 10 minutes.
4. remove from the oven and toss in the sharon fruit whilst it’s still hot.

I have spent most of the day carrying the boy. it was one of those days where he didn’t want to be anywhere other than in my arms. it’s days like this where i forget about my body and only realise the back ache at the end of the day. i am in love with this book and it’s been great for reminding me to take care of myself both mentally and physically. now for an early night i think
