a big myth about resistance training is that lifting weights will make you “big” and “bulky.” when most women say “bulky”, they mean gaining a significant amount of muscle mass in a short time. adding resistance training into your workout routine will not make you gain a large amount of muscle overnight. if you want to get big and bulky, you’re going to have to put in so much more work. believe me, i’ve tried😅 ⁣

incorporating strength training into your workout routine is going to increase your lean body mass and give you that “toned” and “sculpted” look. this is because muscle is more dense than fat, so it takes up less space on your body🤯 the more muscle you have on your body, the more energy you burn which can lead to a decrease in excess fat. so go ahead and eat, lift, and be happy😊 ⁣

✨bor series + upper back strength✨

bor (bent over row) is one of my go-to ‘horizontal pull’ exercise!
.
it not only builds scapular-thoracic strength but it reinforces the importance of positioning. as always, set up is key! before you begin to row, ask yourself:

1. are my abs on?
2. do i feel stress in my low back? (if yes, reset)
3. is my neck not too overextended?

🎥 level 1: non-rowing side is completely supported by the box (right hand & knee). it allows you to focus on the rowing side (left). i love to implement this level in people who lack positional awareness. they first focus on the task and we build up to learning how to stabilize with opposite sides....which leads to level 2!

🎥 level 2: is now introducing stabilization in both feet and non-rowing arm. this requires you to work harder to keep yourself from shifting or rotating. i like to implement these in people who have demonstrated competency in their own proprioceptive awareness (how to sense and position your body in space).

i have to admit, i put a lot of work into this one. i'm not a professional videographer or editor so it takes me pretty long to get these uploaded. .

but it's such an important topic that i wanted to elaborate as best i could on how to get started tracking your food. .

some of my clients have literally transformed their body and life since starting to track their food. it's helped some of them see incredible physical results while others have come to the realization that they can eat a donut or ice cream without ruining their results. 🍦🍩

Lateral abduction - it’s all about those small intrinsic muscle fibers around those hips! ♨️

i have a question for you.... how much do you move your body in the coronal plane aka side to side on a daily basis? my guess is probably not a lot. most people run, walk, climb, jump front to back and guess what those lateral abductors are not activated which in turn leads to muscle imbalances, knee problems, etc which trickle up the body. these small muscle spindles known as your pgogoq muscles lack activation and muscles shut off leaving your pelvis unsupported and weight shifts start to happen. .

this is #1 reason why i make it a point to get these small intrinsic muscle fibers recruited with my clients. as i like to say, we leave no muscle untouched in my workouts. why? because a body in balance leads to body longevity. this is my motive for each and every client. so if you are not working these muscles it’s time to 🔥🔥 them up. form and function over fancy footwork and jumps. you have to learn how to walk before you run. train with good form before you advance your exercises and it all starts from the inside out!!!!

-teach dissociation (separation) of your lower body and upper body.
-teach generating force from the ground up.
-teach your hips, midline, and upper body to link together.

how?🤷.
. -tall kneeling dissociation and tall kneeling shuffle throw-video 1 and 3. by being tall kneeling, we are basically taking the lower body out of the equation and it is a great starting point to teach rotating at the upper body while keeping the lower body square. .

base position dissociation and shuffle throw-video 2 and 4. now that separating movement from the lower body and upper body is taught, we can progress to standing to really teach applying force into the ground and you’ll see how much more power you get when you think about driving your feet threw the floor (or pushing the floor away from you) and keeping your eyes on the target the whole time. .

i use to think i knew how to do rotational throws until learning from the boys @reload.pt (check them out) and watching videos of @n.rodriguez.coach but turns out i was completely wrong. (explains a lot about my hitting in high school😂) if you want to unlock your rotational power💥, give these a try.

Cardio thoughts part 2:
phone, music, netflix, podcast, headset, tv. let's say you don’t have those things with you, but you have to find a way to get your mind away from the pain (boredom) daydream. think of stories. think of the goal you are pushing for. any time spent dreading how hard something is will be time spent pulling you away from your goal. that pain psychology will make your inner “quit” voice whisper even louder.

first it's gonna be hard you are unmotivated. you don't have a reason to do this because you haven't seen any results yet. trick your brain then, adopt a monk mentality. channel your thoughts elsewhere. it will hasten the toughening of your mind and make the experience less undesirable. trust me, i don't always enjoy hours of cardio... just start!

let’s talk about rear deltoids🗣. rear deltoids is apart of the 3 shoulder muscles (anterior, lateral and posterior or rear deltoids). this muscle is probably one of the forgetful muscles to target, unintentionally. when most focus on lateral raises, shoulder presses, we tend to leave the rear delts unattended which causes us to have a muscle imbalance and overactive lateral or anterior deltoids. ~

Never stop following your dreams! •

the last couple of years have been a huge transition for me.


after spending 15 years creating and running my private personal training business in a way that would also allow me to drop everything at a moment's notice for any and all acting opportunities, i realized that a big part of me wasn't happy. i had created an artistic life filled with loooong periods of frustration (auditioning) and brief moments of extreme fulfillment (when you book a good gig). and my overall quality of life was suffering majorly. •

i knew that i needed to make some changes. but, what should i do? what could i do? •

and then it hit me! i was neglecting my creativity! i had been in a screenwriting class for 6 years, and created more than a few scripts that were just sitting in a folder on my laptop. these were stories that i loved, and felt like deserved to be made and given an audience. and the fact that i was choosing to put "my babies" on the back burner so that i could audition for projects that i mostly wasn't interested in was making those dry periods even more frustrating. •

so, i decided to go for it! •

i took a step back from auditioning to produce one of my scripts. and, wow! what an experience!!


though it has been very difficult at times: many obstacles that i could never have predicted presented themselves at the most inopportune moments (like our lead actress getting stung by a bee underneath her eye inside of a swanky nyc apartment 10min before we started shooting her biggest scene!?!) i'm happy to say, this process has been incredibly fulfilling!


i’ve learned soooo many important lessons! from technical know-how to being a better leader.


and, i learned again that listening to myself and following my inspiration makes me happy! 😊💗

I want to give a strong shout out to my client hanna. she’s living proof that hard work, discipline and dedication truly do pay off! and pay off in a big way...in only 6 months she’s gone from just under 29% body f*t to starting to show abdominal definition!!! she’s also living proof that, with hard training and good nutrition, you can keep your muscle mass while losing weight. having the same amount of muscle, but with a lighter body, allows her to flawlessly execute very advanced movements such as this suspended trx lunge to suspended single leg push-ups!!!

4. can improve strength and stability in the shoulder, elbow and wrist joints.

the how:
1. keep the arms straight and shoulders away from the ears.
