a big myth about resistance training is that lifting weights will make you “big” and “bulky.” when most women say “bulky”, they mean gaining a significant amount of muscle mass in a short time. adding resistance training into your workout routine will not make you gain a large amount of muscle overnight. if you want to get big and bulky, you’re going to have to put in so much more work. believe me, i’ve tried😅 ⁣

incorporating strength training into your workout routine is going to increase your lean body mass and give you that “toned” and “sculpted” look. this is because muscle is more dense than fat, so it takes up less space on your body🤯 the more muscle you have on your body, the more energy you burn which can lead to a decrease in excess fat. so go ahead and eat, lift, and be happy😊 ⁣

The past 6 months have changed my life...

what started as an adventure (moving to nyc) turned into a complete career shift and has allowed me to become the person i’ve always wanted to be.

i remember as a kid i used to say, “i want to be a doctor, because i want to help people.” in some way or another, every career helps people. but it wasn’t until i stepped into the role of a coach that i truly felt i was making an impact & fulfilling my purpose.✨

Ask big
god doesn’t want us to just barely get by in life. he wants us to thrive and experience the fullness of his blessing. not only does he want to meet our needs, he wants us to be in a position to reach out and help meet the needs of others, too.

when we pray and ask god for something, it opens a supernatural door. our faith gives god something to work with. faith is what pleases him. faith moves mountains.

did you know that it pleases god when we pray bold prayers and ask him for big things? god loves it when we step outside of the realm of the possible and totally believe what he can do. with god, all things are possible!

today, get bold with your prayers. ask god for big things. believe that he is working behind the scenes on your behalf. put your faith to work because god is faithful. he has big things in store for you, and he says to ask him!

i used to sit 12+ hours a day because i spent 8 hours at work, 3 hours at school, 2 hours commuting each day, and then the unknown hours relaxing on the couch before bed 😕

the worst part was my d**n back pain. it got really bad and it hurt pretty much all the time...

the doctor told me my l4-l5 disc was degenerative and i should stop lifting weights, stop running, stop jumping, and stop being active 😧
-
unfortunately, this doctor was completely wrong!!! 🤬

i learned that my hips were tight, specifically my psoas and quadriceps...
-
i began practicing yoga regularly, i created a daily stretching routine for my body, and i slowly improved my mobility and my back pain 🧘‍♂️

my painful personal experience is one of my biggest drivers for why i’m a fitness coach now 🙂

eating more slowly is something i regularly try to work on and it’s helped me be more present, enjoy my food more, and not overeat. slowing down can bring up anxiety, but that can be a window for you to be in touch with yourself more fully. if that’s too much for you, that’s ok. i’ve been there and still get that way at times. growing and learning is always a work in progress, and becoming more in tune with ourselves is a big piece of the life puzzle 🧩 if you try this out, let me know how it goes! ❤️ happy eating! 😋

Over the past several years i’ve seen way too many people fall short of their fitness goals because of their initial mindset. you can’t go into a weight loss program you or a coach you’re working with set up only thinking of what you want to accomplish in 2-3 months. you have to think long term as well. once you have acquired your goal in those 2-3 months, if you don’t have a plan on what you’re going to do going forward, you’ll quickly end up where you started.

also, setting short term weight loss goals puts stress on you because in your head, you’ve set a time limit. if a month goes by and you’re not quite where you want to be physically, stress starts to really settle in, thoughts about giving up start slowly easing themselves in, or you just give up. this makes the entire process unenjoyable which is what this shouldn’t be about.

set short and long term fitness goals and just coast through the year. lastly, set a realistic amount of time for yourself if it’s a weight loss goal. unless you want to eat like a physique competitor, 3 months isn’t long enough. give yourself plenty of time to gradually get things going and you’ll thank yourself 6 months down the road. #fitnessmotivation #motivation #motivationmonday #nyctrainer #nycpersonaltrainer #exercisemotivation #fitnessgoals #fitnessgoals2020 #springfitness #personaltrainer #personaltraining #fitfamily

sliders are great for improving stability, it’s an exercise tool we all have a love/ hate relationship with.⁣

the reason slider exercises are so difficult is because they change the amount of friction that exist. your muscles—particularly in your shoulders and core—really have to engage to fight back against that force and keep your body stable, which means you'll be working hard throughout the entire movement.⁣

• start in a high plank—hands shoulder-width apart, shoulders above wrists—with your toes on a set of gliders. this is your starting position. ⁣
⁣
• engage your core and dig your feet into the floor as you slide both feet toward your hands, pushing your b**t toward the ceiling. try to keep your legs as straight as you can, but if your hamstrings are tight, you may need to bend your knees a bit.⁣

The misconstrued idea that you will be able train with full juice every day is absurd. fact is that we can’t. training as hard as we can takes a lot out of our cns (nervous system) which can cause compensations, broken movement patterns and possible injury.
it is okay to take a day of and focus on recovery. the best athletes value their recovery days just as much, if not more than their training and game days. take the time to pause, breath, and take in the hard work. you deserve it.
