Man i thought i had it figured out in the left picture. eating what i thought was healthy but i didn’t even have an idea of what real consistency looked like. worried so much about how long it would take to look like i wanted to, that any effort seemed irrelevant.
-
a missed workout or “cheat meal” filled my mind as i went back to the fasting and cardio to “make up” for the day before. then i learned one thing that made sense to me, all we can control is right now.
-
i was getting caught in the details, wondering why i made s****d choices, instead of focusing on the present moment and how i could make a better choice right now. i stopped letting “i wish i would’ve” dominate my mind and started bringing “i am” into the picture.
-
bottom line: we can only control so much, mainly the choice we are making right now. focus on that choice and only that choice and win that battle with your lesser self. if you lose, fine, now you have fuel to win the next choice. string together enough of those wins and soon you’ll be the person you see in your head.

How should your training session in the gym look like if you want to lose fat?

exactly the same as when you want to build muscle! with the return of our dear peter and susy i will try to illustrate the most often mistakes people make.

peter decided to lose some weight in order to get fit for the summer. he started eating less food and going to the gym 4 times a week. his training sessions are with very light weight and high repetitions. after a few months peter did lose a lot of weight but he is still very unhappy because he achieved the so called “skinny f*t look”.
-
on the other hand susy goes to the gym 5 times a week and spends her time only doing cardio! making sure to eat less calories than she burns very soon susy starts loosing weight. in the beginning she is very excited to see the change on the scale, but soon she realizes that she does not like what she sees in the mirror. what is her mistake?

if you eat less than you need your body will use the f*t stores to provide the energy. but the more muscle you have the more energy your body needs, so it will also start “eating” your muscles so that it can survive on lower energy supplies it is being provided. this will result in weight loss that includes a lot of muscle loss.

don’t be like peter and susy. if you want to lose f*t make sure to eat less than you need and also to make your training sessions in the gym count so your body knows it has to keep that well earned muscle!

No place i’d rather spend a friday evening.. 🏋🏼‍♂️⁣

i’m really enjoying my workouts at the moment, they’re almost therapeutic. ⁣

when i come in the gym, i’ve been putting my phone on aeroplane mode and putting on a great playlist.⁣

45-60 minutes completely cut off from the world. ⁣

no deep thoughts, no worrying, just focusing on each rep & each set. ⁣

i can’t tell you how enjoyable it is. ⁣

the only thing i could compare it to, is watching a good football/sports game. where you are so engrossed in each move & play, that you forget about reality.⁣

i guess it’s a form of escapism. ⁣

and i’m so glad to have found it. ⁣

* 1/2 lb ham steak
* 6 eggs
* 1/4 cup milk
* 1 large sweet potato
* 1/2 small onion
* 1 small green pepper
* 1 golden delicious apple
* 1 avocado
* 2 tbsp olive oil
.
preparation
1. wash and peel your sweet potato. cut it into a small/medium dice. drizzle 1 tbsp olive oil over the top and roast at 400f for 10 minutes and flip. cook an additional 5 minutes. 
2. cut the onion and pepper in a small dice. add 1 tbsp oil to a skillet over medium high heat. cook until the onions are soft and translucent. remove from pan. 
3. scramble 6 eggs with the milk and cook over medium heat until cooked. set aside. 
4. cut the ham into a large dice and sauté in skillet until browned. 
5. cut the apple into a large dice. don’t cook them as it will cook in the microwave and you want them to maintain texture. 
6. divide your ingredients evenly between your 4 containers.  top with avocado

8-10 ounces filet mignon steak
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp extra v****n olive oil

Sure cardio burns calories but did you know strength training burns more fat? ⁣

when eating in a caloric deficit, your best buddy is actually strength training and not cardio. ⁣

why? ⁣

because strength training builds muscle. ⁣
muscle takes more calories at rest to maintain. ⁣
your body needing more calories while at rest gives you a higher metabolism. ⁣

i personally only started focusing on cardio this year, and mainly because i have access to so many trails. ⁣

but honestly, i would get my steps in by walking my dogs. ⁣

i’m not saying don’t do cardio, heart health is important, but if getting lean and losing body f*t are your goals, you should put your focus into lifting those weights. ⁣

the secret ingredient in this creamy avocado pasta salad recipe will shock you! this avocado pasta salad is easy, creamy, vibrant, fresh and so satisfying!⠀

4 cups lightly packed (about 3 oz) fresh baby spinach⠀
4 tbsp lemon juice (from 1 large lemon)⠀
1 garlic clove, sliced⠀
3 medium avocados (2 for the dressing, 1 for salad)⠀
12 oz rotini pasta⠀
1 cup (half of a 10 oz bag) frozen sweet peas⠀
1 cup (half of a 10 oz bag) frozen corn⠀
2 cups (1 pint) baby tomatoes, halved⠀
1 tsp sea salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper, or to taste⠀

how to make creamy avocado pasta salad:⠀
cook pasta according to package instructions – i cooked 12 oz pasta in 4 qts water with 1 tbsp salt and boiled 10 minutes. about 4 minutes before your pasta is done cooking, add frozen peas and frozen corn and cook 4 minutes or until veggies are crisp tender. rinse under running cold water to chill the pasta. drain well and transfer to a large mixing bowl. in a food processor or blender, combine half of the spinach, 2 quartered avocados, 4 tbsp lemon juice, 1 sliced garlic clove, 1 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper. pulse until blended then add remaining spinach and blend until creamy and smooth.⠀
add avocado dressing to pasta bowl along with sliced tomatoes and 1 remaining sliced avocado. toss salad together until evenly coated. season to taste with more salt and black pepper.⠀

I really just wanted to wrap up in a cozy blanket, drink my coffee, and read a book this morning. i am really thinking moving to arizona for the winter & moving back to idaho for the summer is a great idea!
but i didn’t stay at home all warm & cozy... i dragged my b**t out into the freezing cold & got my day 4/5 & 2/2 of cardio intervals done at the gym. 1 more strength workout tomorrow to finish my week off!!! .

D i n n e r b e l l s......this is actually my second workout of the day 💪🏻i was meant to head to the gym later on tonight and do a kettlebell class but found myself itching to just get my workout done (i'm blaming this weather) and decided to use my dinner hour to complete a kb circuit i threw together. 30 moves, 50 seconds (it says 40 on my paper but i changed it 👀) work with 10 seconds of rest....it got my heart rate up and a workout is a workout no matter where you do it. i'm trying to take the pressure off myself at the moment, if i miss a class or i can't find a routine that fits into my schedule each week (like it used to) i know that i can grab some equipment and just get it done at home 😅
