Incase you missed me ranting on my stories this morning about this.. let's talk about the new idea to put how much exercise you need to do to burn the calories on food packets. here's why i think it's a bloody awful idea. ⁣
⁣
1- it insinuates that we need to burn off all the food that we eat in a day. that's simply not true. our bodies need calories to function. we use calories to breathe, to digest food, to pump blood around the body etc. a lot of us know this already, but a lot of us don't.⁣
⁣
2- if you currently, or have in the past, suffer with any form of disordered eating this idea can be a trigger. again, it implies we should burn off all the food we eat. ⁣
⁣
3- how long it takes me to run off a mince pie will differ to how long it takes you, and the next person. everyone burns calories at a different rate. it's not a one size fits all and you therefore cannot accurately put one number on the food packet. ⁣
⁣
4- they say they're considering it because the current calorie info on the packet isn't understood by most people. how is this any different? unless you actually partake in the exercise listed on the packet then the number doesn't mean anything to you. ⁣
⁣
5- if anything, this is simply going to demonise food for a lot of people and make it into a negative thing. we need to enjoy food- and sometimes that means having a mince pie without being told we need to run for 25 minutes to burn it off. food is not the devil.⁣
⁣
6- why are we constantly looking for quick fixes to our obesity problem? we need to educate. teach children about energy balance in a way they understand and how to find enjoyment in different types of exercise. teach parents and elders (that's where we learn most of our habits from as children). the obesity crisis didn't happen overnight and it won't end overnight. we need to spend time to educate people. properly. ⁣
⁣
i understand what they're trying to do with this idea, but it's so poorly designed. and there are far too many flaws. ⁣
⁣
and in case you didn't hear that in the back.. educate. educate. educate.

After a couple rest days, felt pretty good to get back into the #gym. nothing crazy, but i did run some. swipe through ➡️ to the end to see 10 min of internal #running squished into a very short amount of time. i haven't ran in a while besides a little warm up sometimes, so i started pretty slow. i didn't want to not be able to finish. now i have a bar set to beat! #goals! i also benchpressed the big dumbbells today. first time using 35 lb dbs for that so 📣🔊📢 pr alert!!! 📣🔊📢 hope y'all are crushing it!

as a rule of thumb consuming overly processed foods has negative health outcomes.

well, cooking is just heat-processing… and, there is such a thing as heat-over-processing. .
cooking at high temperatures can create harmful chemicals. .

the other good news is that some solutions turn out to be tasty as well as effective!

start healthy! make sure your baseline diet is unprocessed foods.

the healthier you are, the more leeway you have.

also note, that due to interpersonal variation in enzymatic activity, some individuals tolerate these chemicals better than others. ❄️

eat a lot of veggies! (build up your defences)
polyphenols, vitamins and antioxidants found in vegetables support the activity of liver enzymes that help detoxify hcas and pahs. .
use marinades, spices and herbs.

🌿 rosemary lowers hca formation by as much as 90%.
acids such as lemon juice or vinegar are also beneficial.

avoid excessive heat and don't overcook meat.
🙅‍♂️ avoid cooking with high heat or open flames. ✅ opt for medium or indirect heat
next best! practice damage control!
discard the blackened or charred portion of meat. this is where the harmful chemicals concentrate.

day in and day out i see people starting off their "leg day" with endless sets of calf raises followed by some sort of bosu ball balance act then move on to a handful of other accessory leg movements. these same peeps seem to ignore the most fundamental and most important lifts when it comes to developing the lower half.

developing a strong lower body isn't complicated. in fact, the most effective lifts are the two most basic: the squat and the deadlift. the squat and deadlift are king when it comes to glute, hamstring, and quad building, and on top of that, they're also among the best lifts for promoting total-body strength, balance, and athleticism.

💥 i'm not saying that the other movements are unnecessary, but they should not be given the same value, in terms of training time, as the deadlift and squat. make sure your leg days revolve around these two fundamental lifts!!

Did that #chest and #shoulder work today. i ran a mile last night. whew. that first run, when you’re heavy, is no joke. i was 280 on the scale. now, i’m a firm believer in the scale not telling the whole story, but it does have its uses. and one is....how much will it hurt to run!!??!! when i’m over 260lbs, it’s a slower process to adapt for my body. so i have to take it slow. since it’s been a few years since i’ve regularly, it’s been a physical and mental struggle. well, recently i changed my schedule around in order to give me better mental opportunities to run. so, let’s see what happens....one mile at a time. 👊🏾
