these are by far one of my favourite go-to treats! i use light smooth kraft pb, and pc organics honey. i also add in 2tbsp of ground flax as well. the rest i get from the bulk barn. mix it all, ball it up, and keep them in the freezer. you eat them frozen directly from the freezer. they are so good! enjoy!!!! ๐Ÿ˜„

give it a try and let us know what you think. it may just become your new favorite f word too.

recipe:
1 cup of dried whole fava beans
1 tsp salt
3 cups water
bring to a boil in cooking p*t on stove on high.
turn down and simmer for 45 minutes.
drain.

to make hummus:
add the following to a food processor.
add the drained boiled fava beans.
1/3 cup tahini (sesame paste)
4 large cloves of peeled fresh garlic.
freshly squeezed lemon juice from 3 large lemons.
10 dashes of tobasco sauce.
5 dashes of frank's red hot sauce.
2 tsp of kosher salt.
1 tablespoon of olive oil.

blend until smooth.
you may need to add more olive oil or a half of another lemon to thin out the hummus.
add more hot sauce flavors to your taste.

enjoy!

Confession: i have a difficult time eating fruit unless it’s in a pastry or dessert of some sort. i’m such a germophobe that i won’t eat them unless they are cooked. rinsing them with water isn’t enough. i’m afraid to eat organic fruits especially because they have itty bitty critters on them (go to whole foods and check out their strawberries ๐Ÿ˜–). but i’m trying to change this. i’m being brave and forcing myself to eat fresh blueberries today. it’s taking forever though because i have to inspect every single berry ๐Ÿ˜ฐ i know. definitely a case of ‘first world problems’.... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ#blueberries #fruits #healthyeating #healthysnacks #firstworldproblems

unfortunately, my stomach hates me and lactose lately so i haven’t been able to get my ice cream in that often, but when it comes to ~healthier~ options: @nadamoo & @eatenlightened are my faves. i just recently tried nadamoo & it is completely dairy-free so safe to say the pint i bought the other day is almost gone.

this photo is fava hummus 2.0 meaning it is the base of the recipe: italian tuna on sourdough toast with fava hummus. with the crunch of garden radishes from #thejunglefarm and a few broccoli sprouts, this lunch or summer dinner option should be on your radar.

recipe:
we used @riomareofficial italian tuna, a company supporting sustainable & diverse fishing methods. it is available at some gourmet grocery stores and at @londondrugs.
.

1 can solid rio mate italian tuna in olive oil.
1 tablespoon minced pickled peppers.
1 teaspoon dijon mustard.
2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill.
2 tablespoons chopped green onion.
one large celery stalk minced.
2 tablespoons mayonnaise. (add one tablespoon at at time for desired texture).
juice of one full fresh lemon.
approximately a half a teaspoon salt or a bit less. a few twists of freshly ground pepper.

for assembly of sandwich:
fava hummus. (recipe in previous post)
fresh radish slices.
broccoli sprouts. .
combine:
drain oil from tuna.
place tuna in mixing bowl and add all ingredients other than the hummus, radishes and stouts. mix.
refrigerate until ready to assemble.

toast sourdough slice and layer with fava hummus. spread the tuna mixture on each piece. garnish with two slices of radish and broccoli sprouts. serve and devour immediately.

i love incorporating an array of colors because that alone makes it more fun ๐ŸŒˆ .
plus, there are definitely healthy ways to satisfy your sweet tooth like kombucha, fruit and dark chocolate! i like to call kombucha the healthy man’s soda pop ๐Ÿ˜ธ

not only do i look forward to the food i eat but i also connect it to feeling my best!

the right side is my fuel for the day. that salad has wild caught salmon, bell peppers, tomatoes, beets & purple cauliflower (topped with balsamic glaze not shown)
