Sunday mood 🥳
i did a session today on the treadmill of 12x300m with 60 sec recovery! followed by my first yoga class in forever... 😆 i’ve never been a big yoga person, even though i know it’s really good for me. i just get antsy, and feel like i’m wasting my time. i prefer to be doing something physically more demanding. so today i tried yoga for “runners”. was not what i expected. i thought it would be more active and intense, but i will say i felt so good afterwards. it was a lot of stretching of the legs, so a big focus from waist down. reminded me that even though sometimes i don’t look forward to doing something, once i do it i realise what a difference it makes & actually super happy i tried it! when was the last time you pushed yourself to do something you didn’t really “feel like” ? 💪🏼 -

Scorpion 🦂 - i rarely teach this. it’s for the advanced practitioner with so many requirements needing to be attained before getting here but i do like to practice it myself at the end of a long and luxurious session. the springs/straps assist nicely in the muscle recruitment sequencing if you get the spring into your hamstrings and quads before going into the back extension, then the bending of the knees is a huge quad and hip flexor opening rather than a dumping into the lower back💫

18/11/19 9.45pm. the best part about adulthood is i get to decide what’s important to me, prioritizing my needs more than my wants, and managing self expectations and expectations of others.

daily i set my goals on what needs to be done and what i can push aside, temporarily or permanently. i get to prioritize things that are important to me; family, career, sincere friends as well as my other interests. i get to choose my battles, either to focus my energy on battling necessary challenges for me to progress in life, or to battle elements that would lead to more negativity.

growing up also means recognition of your self-worth, and to convey this recognition so others would appreciate who you are and what you have to offer. managing self expectations allows me to list my capabilities, and to find rooms where i could further hone these capabilities. managing the expectations of others is imperative to ensure accurate and optimized deliverables, to maintain interrelationship trust, and to be able to foresee the rectification of future issues. furthermore, managing the expectation of others is fundamental in the control of stress, whether intrinsic or extrinsic; but beneficial in pushing myself to levels that i’ve yet to attain.

Monday!! always the hardest day after a weekend of being couch potato (re: a person who spend a little or no time exercising and a great deal of time watching television)😂😂😂 some shoulder workout that i did this morning!! if you r workin out at home, you can using a pair of dumbbell only for the entire exercise❤️

🔥strict press 5-6 reps, increase the weight each round or more reps with lighter weight
🔥inverted row (open your elbow wider to execute those rear delt and pull ur chest to the barbell) 30 sec
🔥push up to paused single arm plank 30 sec
🔥decline position lateral raise 12 reps each
🔥upright row to push press 30 sec each -
repeat each exercise for 3-4 rounds before you move to the next exercise🔥💪🏽💪🏽 have a nice2 monday y’all❤️❤️❤️

Sleep your way to better health and body composition.

chronically under sleeping can:
🔅increase food cravings
🔅increase inflammation in the body
🔅impair cognitive and immune function
🔅impair the healing of your body
🔅impair digestion and the gut
🔅impair hormone balance
🔅impair tolerance for carbohydrates aka insulin resistance

this weeks task is to get better sleep. your ultimate goal will be to get 7+ hours of sleep per night. however i know that sometimes that’s easier said then done so start small by going to bed 10-15-20mins earlier then normal. this would end of being almost an extra 2 hours per week, 8 extra in a month, and 96 extra hours per year!! everything adds up! 1% better 💪🏼😊 some things you can do to improve your sleep:
😴 implement an electronics shut off time and/or invest in some blue light blocking glasses 💤 keep your bedroom cool at night
😴 use a white noise machine or fan
💤 drink your liquids earlier in the day so you can stop drinking 2-3hrs before bedtime. (so you don’t get up to pee)
😴 stop drinking caffeine after 12-1p 💤 invest in a sleep mask and/or blackout blinds
😴 take magnesium before bed
💤 make sure you’re consuming enough food. if calories are too low = poor sleep quality. 🛌 🛌

Honestly, i really don’t feel like eating, i don’t feel the best, and when this happens, i really throw myself off.

the cycle will continue. you may not always “feel” like eating especially if you’re dealing with mental illness, not feeling well physically, or investing so much time into others, you will often tell yourself “i will eat after i finish this, or i’ll wait for lunch” then dinner comes around and you’re starving.

it takes effort to stay on track, but with a little discipline you can achieve anything

My fitness journey

in my 20s i worked out to videos 1-2xs/week and sometimes would miss weeks in between. i wasn't consistent. i also ate more than i worked out. i even got a belly ring hoping it would motivate me to get abs 😳 (now it's just a hole and no abs)

in my 30s i wanted to feel stronger, healthier. it started off slow because as we all should know by now abs are made in the kitchen. changing my eating habit is a constant struggle for me. i ❤ food! i wanted to make sure whatever i did it would be a lifestyle change and not just a fad. it had to work with my busy schedule.

as i approached my 40s and now in my 40s i have been working with a trainer at @impactboxingyyc, @mvdevelopment for the last 2 years. i feel much more confident in my clothes, i feel happier and fitter than i did in my 20s.

fitness is now part of my life, it will always be changing because my body is changing as i get older.

i’m being asked on daily bases.
over the course of years working closely with people who want to lose weight, what to eat is always a challenge.

you see ... what you eat is all about habits. they come from the family you grew up with, society you live in ... and these habits keep evolving as you grow older.

i grew up in “everything” eating family. fresh raw veggies were present only in summer time, and the meals i grew up eating were carbs and meat.

i did change my eating habits, over years vegetarian/vegan by choice (although i still fall for cheese 🧀 🙄) my point today is this: it does matter what you eat.

it does matter if you food is life giving or disease feeding!
