note to self and anyone else before meet day ✅✅✅
1️⃣ eat food the day before
2️⃣ don’t stay up late
3️⃣ for gawed sakes eat breakfast
4️⃣ do hot cold therapy for days on end prior
5️⃣ get the nerves out
6️⃣ don’t drink tons of water during warmup so you have to p*e every 2 seconds
7️⃣ always always always always always listen to @thesteelmachine because he knows best and he knows all ❤️

<<<front squats>>> second to last set of a 6x4 from my last leg session of explosive/power training. front squats are a phenomenal exercise for athletes who rely on quads, hips, and upper back muscles for performance. ⚾️ it's very important as a baseball player to have strong scapular muscles (back and specifically upper back in my case) and quad muscles since we're firing with those muscles when we're swinging, throwing, and sprinting. i do want to add that an already strong core along with healthy shoulder mobility are key to be able to perform these safely and correctly. they will prevent from tilting forward and straining the knees as well as proper bar placement (resting on the upper pec and front deltoid muscles with the elbows up)

even if you're not a serious athlete and you're looking for a challenge and\or feel like you're lacking in your quad muscles, then definitely consider adding these to your repertoire on your leg day!

As requested by @jennmoser, this week’s #trainertiptuesday is reviewing the front squat! with any squat, it is so important to start with a hinge in your hips before you bend your knees. this will prevent your back from rounding and your knees coming forward (as seen in the picture on the left). with the weights front loaded, it is easy to lose straightness in your back, but if you start with a proper hip hinge and put all of your weight on your heals, you should be able to maintain your form throughout the movement! #otfchinohills #trainertip #frontsquat

how:
1. it is the same snatch, with a slower pull from the ground to mid-to-upper-thigh, taking 2-3 seconds to reach upper thigh.
2. when the bar reaches upper mid-thigh, accelerate without stopping, to complete the snatch.
3. generally, use 60-70% of your max at 2-3 reps. use a weight that allows you to use proper timing and position.

Threw some weight around today with coach @ jacknlangley. starting with a single power clean every minute on the minute #emom for 10 minutes. first time doing these as an emom and definitely the heaviest i've ever done these @ 85lb. after this we did 1rm front squat hitting a new 145 lb pr. after this, a pushup and chinup hold superset. just putting in the work, showing up, doing what i'm told. :) get er done!

Highlights from today's workout. i'm super behind on week three. i still have two days left because last week all my lifts just blew chunks and i had a huge mind block. so i just stopped while i was ahead. i actually tried day 3 on sunday and they were s**t lifts.
i tried again today and i blew it out of the water. my mind block is gone. 👏
first video. i was able to get 130 lbs for my last two sets for my 80% front squat + j**k and didn't struggle at all. like a completely different person. 🙌
another side note!!! i'm super happy with that number because my 1rm used to be 125 for clean and jerk. 😁 happy damce.! 💃
second video is front squats up to 80% to 100% 3 reps each set and i got up to 165lbs which is aight. normally can get 175lbs. next time.
the rest of the videos are self explanatory. box jumps, #abs, and wrist flexion and inflection.

🤔 struggle to get into a good front squat position? elbows flare out to the side with overhead 🏋️‍♂️ press? have shoulder pain? you may have limited external rotation mobility!

📌 external rotation refers to movement of the shoulder away from the body. for a visual rest your arm at your side with your arm bent - keep the arm pinched at your side rotate & your hand out ➡️ away from your body - that’s external rotation.
__
❗️ deficits in range here can physically limit your ability to lift overhead with “optimal” mechanics and may be a driver in shoulder pain related to lifting overhead. this is because a lack of er motion will result in more bony contact of the shoulder joint when overhead
__
❗️in addition if you have a hard time getting your arms into a proper front rack/front squat position there’s a good chance this is the problem
__
🤔 how do you know you’re limited? well loosely with our arm out to the side in the second video position we should be able to get our forearm parallel with the ground or farther.
__
🤔how do you improve it? included above are three pretty aggressive ways to do so. generally speaking these will be appropriate for the regular lifter who is mostly healthy or in later stage shoulder rehab. they will usually not be for a highly painful/irritable shoulder early in rehab
__
1️⃣ is an easy way to address it with a rod
2️⃣ is a progression of #1 3️⃣ is an alternative way that also addresses a variety of other potential limiting structures like the pecs
4️⃣ is simply a photo to better show placement from #3 __

Getting back on track feels so good!

incorporating volume training with weightlifting just really gives that extra edge of pleasure i missed for a long time. .
ofc sipping on some pump and legend gives a good feeling as well!
.
it's normal that motivation comes and goes.
.
that's why my golden piece of advice is just do what makes you happy.

came a little earlier this time. didnt want to max out or anything. even though i wanted to squat 300lbs.i just decided to focused on reps instead. also 275lbs felt heavy..& i always say that i'm going to do a deload week and never do. this time i have to.. gives me time to recovery. i do have to go back to finish my workout though. forgot that the daycare at the gym close for two hours🙄 so i didnt have the time to finish the rest.
