💥 friday freestlye 💥

i’m just having fun here but road trips before races can make or break anyone’s performance. if your gettin’ down on the course this weekend prep yourself the night before with a 20 minute jog and whatever your mobility practice is that gets you running on all cylinders.

stretching and hydrating tendons, ligaments and muscles through unstructured play pushes water into the edges of those tissues so you can count on what you ask of your body to live up to your expectations.

i decided to jump into @spartanrace in #sacramento this weekend so after battling 4 hours of traffic i hit a 20 min shakeout run, mobility then i found this sandbag thing in my hotel gym and free-styled it for a bit.

truth- it's friday, it's been a long week... i didn't want to push play today. no motivation. my muscles are sore, i'm tired, i worked out all the other days, so why not take a rest day, i'm good right? i told myself every excuse today. 😒 my knee is sore (that's my life so excuse!)
😒 i'm tired (thank you energize for bashing that one!)
😒i hate working out after work (well you chose to sleep in, you're fault!)
😒purely not motivated

but!! i made a promise to myself to hit goals by end of year.. so the desire to do something better for myself kicked in...
.
i took my shot of energize and pushed play on shoulders which is one of my favorites. i modified my hiit part as best i could since i can't jump or deep squat and ya know what... .
32 minutes is all it took to
💪 turn my mood around
💪 to give me energy
💪 to help me towards my goals
.
so you may not feel "motivated" everyday, but you can certainly be dedicated to yourself everyday and push for that desire to do something better for yourself 🥰 need a push, no excuse november is in full effect and we can help each other stay accountable! 💪🙋🏼‍♀️🔥

Posterior chain gang by @lb3fitness

🔗your “posterior chain” is the name given to the entire set of muscles on the back (posterior) side of your body
.
🏋🏼‍♂️from your shoulders, down your back, your butt, hamstrings, and calves.
.
these muscles are so crucial to train, because they are majorly responsible for our posture, and we muse many of them every day
.
this is in comparison to the “anterior” or front muscles, or what i like to call “mirror muscles”
.
💪🏻mirror muscles, your pecs, abs, biceps, are what we see in the mirror, and hence, what most people tend to pay more attention to
.
make no mistake though, posterior chain is where its at.

i make sure to adhere to a 2:1 (trying for 3:1) ratio of posterior to anterior movements for myself and clients.
.
💁🏼‍♂️if you suffer from back or shoulder pains, changing your training from more anterior dominant to more posterior will surely help clean that up
.
it will also make you strong af, as your back muscles are important in all major lifts
.
basically, train more back. train more butt. train more hammies.
.
and, this is a super advanced combo, but if you’re up for the challenge, give it a go (def not for beginners though!)
.
and, if you sit at a desk every day and are suffering from chronic aches and pains, dm me as i am looking for 3 more guys to serve as case studies for my pilot “train away the pain” system!

Motivation is crap. i said it.💯🔥🤷🏼‍♀️ now let me explain.

you see all the ‘motivation’ in your feed. you follow and friend people that post endless photos and food recipes and vacay photos. and this is great. you should surround yourself with people on the same journey as you. they give you something to look forward to. something to look up to even.

but if you don’t make the changes or put in the work, you will not get to the places that they are, have been, or claim to have been. (i say this because i take everything with a grain of salt on social🤫🧐) if you choose not to get up and moving, these posts are just posts. these posts could push you further. they have potential to help you.

but you can be surrounded with endless ‘motivation’ and still not do any of the things that will get you there.

so i will say it again🤷🏼‍♀️. motivation is crap. does that make more sense now? hopefully someone read through and a light bulb went off (i know i had a complete aha moment😂😅) inspiration photos & vision boards & dreams are great! having something to set your sights on is fantastic! but that is inspiration my friends.

the real motivation comes from within yourself. you can try to look for it elsewhere, but you already have it!
* it starts from your ‘why’. i’m serious- everyone needs a great why statement💯🥰
* it is having not just an inspiration or dream board- but an actual goal list and how you are going to get there.
* it is having a growth mindset and keeping promises to yourself.
* it is having a plan for when you fall off the bandwagon (and this will happen, and it’s okay as long as you start again.🤭🤷🏼‍♀️😎😘).
*it is doing the hard things, especially when you don’t want to or have time to.

remind yourself of your ‘why’ and hustle! when you actually do the hard things, your self confidence will be catapulted forward. trust me😉😎 accomplishment feels great. you feel stronger. and life gets better. take strides my friends! heck, take baby steps- even just one thing a day to help you in the future. don’t be afraid to be your own motivation. don’t be so afraid that you don’t do the things that are calling your name! it can be scary. but do it anyway

a strong core is absolutely everything in my opinion. way too often, people focus and prioritize on the wrong thing in the gym which is get strong and jacked as hell by lifting heavy loads and slamming the weights. now that's great and i agree, lifting heavy is awesome, but the priority for all gym goers should be a strong core for both performance reasons and health reasons.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

👉you can lift heavier: when you have sa strong core and your spinal column and body is stabilized, you reduce energy leaks in the kinetic chain meaning. this leads to stronger, more powerful contractions of the muscles required to lift the load and reduces compensation from other muscles, usually synergistic muscles.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Two things: 1. raise your hand if you feel like you survived the longest week of the year. ✋🏼 2. we finally got a cold front here in fl, i woke up to beautiful 64 degrees...with a high of 78 today. 😍🤪

but seriously, this past week has been a weird one. i haven’t quite felt like myself and haven’t felt like i’ve been able to give anything 100%. let’s all blame the time change because wtf??

anywhoo, i’ve been switching up my workouts a bit to challenge myself and it’s feeling reallly good. if you’re bored of your workouts or in a rut, try incorporating new things!

soo i recorded half of my leg workout last night... maybe one day i’ll actually take quality videos but for now i still think it’s awk so enjoy my horribly angled/framed vids (lol at the 4th one). 🤷‍♀️

if you want to k**l your leggies, here’s my entire workout:
➖warmup 3x no rest: standing banded lateral leg raises x15, banded jump squats x15, raised heel goblet squats x15
1️⃣back squats-2x10 slow with pause at the bottom 3x8 regular increasing weight
2️⃣single leg box squats 3x8 each leg (vid 1)
3️⃣sumo deadlifts 4x8-10 (vid 2)
4️⃣heavy hip thrusts 4x6-8 (vid 3)
5️⃣superset x3: split squats 12 each leg + dumbbell rdls 10-15 (vid 4 🥴 + 5)
6️⃣superset x3: step ups 15 each leg + elevated sumo squats x10 heavy
➖finisher: rounded back extensions to failure (really squeeze da booty)
