It was 3 years ago(2017) around this time when i started going to the gym again and never looked back🤩 so i guess you can say february is my little gym/fitness anniversary😇

i never started working out for aesthetics honestly, i was stressed with college(my first programming class wrecked me tbh😅) and i remember driving home with my mom talking about it and she told me to start going back to the gym. and she was right, the gym became my stress reliever and i began to need my hour in the gym everyday. things have changed all around me but this has always remained constant💜

Meet alanna— she decided to join our gym when she noticed she needed some physical activity into her daily lifestyle that pushes her to stay on top of her health. after her 1 free class and days of not being able to walk from soreness, she knew this was her answer. •
two things she would tell someone who is starting their fitness journey?
1. “you aren't going to see changes, unless you make changes in your daily routine. that was a hard lesson to learn. might as well start now”
2. “it's not going to happen over night, but seeing little wins like, small muscle tone, going up in kettle ball weights, and less, "i'm going to pass out" moments are always a good feeling.”

3. alanna’s favorite thing about h.i.i.t fit gym?
“it's an ideal program for someone like me who gets overwhelmed trying to make my own workout, won't push myself to do another rep, or keep myself accountable to get to the gym. h.i.i.t fit in deep ellum solves all of this for me. one hour class with a variety of exercises, already planned out, and you become familiar with those in class and it helps with accountability. the bomb and helpful instructors add to all of this.”

We’re less than two weeks away from our wellness event🍑🧘🏽‍♀️💓👸🏻💪🏽. i’m so frickin excited (like selina’s)! reuniting with this b**e has been so fun!

i was recently asked what my purpose was for these events.... i wanted to create a unique experience where we come together with our walls down and we can support each other, empower one another and have an experiential moment to be present with each other. to me that’s rewarding af!
something that i have been hearing about at a lot of events from different groups is that when they’re going to other groups, they feel unwelcome. but i think we’re doing this to each other. because of living in a digital world, i feel that we have become more socially awkward so sometimes it’s intimidating. sometimes we think people are being stuck up but i really think they’re just intimidated and they can be far from that. so i thought, let’s be the change. let’s smile to one another, let’s welcome one another, let’s go out of our way to introduce one another. let’s get back to our roots event if it’s a little uncomfortable at first. treat it like a muscle!!! the more you exercise that, the more you become that. let’s give more love!!

Two of the most challenging movements that i’ve done recently. adding that thick band while standing on the bosu made those front / goblet squats tough on the core & stability. i felt every muscle in my core & hips working. oh, & let’s not forget the 80 lb dumbbell!! .

q. how long have you been training with the team and what inspires you to continue to live a fit and healthy lifestyle?
a. i don’t remember what year i began with chris at 24 hr...probably 2013! i watched the team for a year or two prior and thought, “i could never do that!” as i age, staying fit and healthy is more important with each passing year. i feel great, and i have a blast working out with my husband and incredible teammates!

q. when it comes to fitness goals, what is something we would like to achieve in 2020?
a. i want to continue to safely push myself to new levels, work on flexibility, and be more like @mccormickcrass who probably holds the most records at @chrisayalafitness
q. after being on the team as long as we have and looking at how far we’ve come in our health and fitness journey, what is one piece of advice you would go back and give your beginner self?

Let’s talk shoes! while it may be tempting for a runner to buy one pair of shoes and wear them for all their different kinds of workouts, it’s not the best strategy. but why?
1. running shoes are specifically designed for running. they don’t offer support for lateral movements that you might do in the gym or in a class.
2. most running shoes have cushioning to reduce the impact with the ground, but when lifting weights you want to feel the ground under your feet—and if your shoes have more cushioning under the heel than the toe (as most running shoes do) the cushion gives an unstable surface for squatting (can be dangerous when squats get heavy) and other exercises.
3. running shoes are expensive and are generally designed to last 300-500 miles (give or take) but every step you take counts towards those miles, so if you’re wearing your running shoes to walk your dogs, go to the grocery store, or to your gym cardio class— you’re putting mileage on your shoes and will need replaced sooner than if you saved them running only. buy a less expensive pair of casual or training shoes for errands and you’ll save money on running shoes!
i have two (ok 10 😂) pairs of running shoes that i alternate use
i have a pair of flat gym training shoes (ok 3) that i wear for walks and low to medium intensity gym workouts.
optional- i have weight lifting shoes with hard bottoms for very heavy days (honestly, i don’t love these and prefer to lift in flat shoes)

how many pairs of workout shoes do you own? how many of each kind? i never think i go overboard and even though i probably have a #shoeproblem because my husband collects shoes (seriously!) and has an insane amount 😂

Today’s workout was amazing! i’ve been gone for a few days.....ok a week due to my daughter catching the funk. it’s easy to want to give up once you have a little time off. you start thinking about all this “free time” you have now that you aren’t spending 2+ hours at the gym. you know what starts to happen in that “free time”? i do, eating, munching, snacking, face stuffing and all that in between. #imnotapro #dontjudge @blinkfitness
