When you go to the gym, what should you do first?

answer: weight training should be performed first, cardio second.

i recommend weight training first for 30-45 minutes. then, performing cardio for the last 15-20 minutes. *it’s okay to warm up with 5-10 minutes of cardio.

why? because your body goes through different energy systems. it first utilizes glycogen aka carbohydrates. this is your bodies best source of energy. once glycogen has been depleted, your body will then start to use stored f*t as energy. everyone uses up their energy at different rates. becky might be able to burn f*t after 40 minutes of weight training while sam might be able to burn f*t at 1 hour of weight training. if you do cardio first, you still have to get through your glycogen stores before you can begin burning fat. that might take you a long time especially if you are doing steady stare cardio on a treadmill.

🍔most people are perpetually searching for the “best” workout. the “best” diet. the “best” exercise. and, in the process, they jump from program after program, diet after diet, workout after workout, cleanse after cleanse, supplement after supplement...but they rarely ever get to a point in which they’re truly happy with how they look. 🤷🏼‍♀️they might see progress in the beginning - when they start something new - but before long they hit a plateau and lose motivation and rebound back to where they started (sometimes even further). 🍟the truth? 🥓it’s not sexy or marketable and i definitely can’t sell an ebook on it or get rich...but it’s the truth. 🌯there is no such thing as the “best” workout or diet or exercise or program. it doesn’t exist. 🥞because...everything works. everything. low carb, high carb, paleo, vegan, organic, south beach, mediterranean, keto. gymnastics, powerlifting, olympic weightlifting, spin, yoga, zumba, rock climbing, running. 🍫it works. all of it works. they all have different benefits and accomplish different things...but they all work and can help you achieve your goals. 🍩so what’s the secret to success if not finding the “best” workout or diet? 🍪it’s finding what you love. doing something you enjoy and get excited about. because the real key to success lies in consistency of practice. and if the “best” program isn’t sustainable...it’s worthless. 🍭do what you love and never look back.

My work son @chadhargrove1 strikes again with this doozy: @regrann from @chadhargrove1 - honestly sometimes i talk to people in dms and i think you’ve been misled. or just not quite understanding what goes into changing your body.

it’s like you think calorie deficit = good. or weight loss = good.
-
but surplus (or maintenance) is bad. weight stays the same or goes up is bad.
-
theres a really good chance you’re gonna need a surplus at some point to get to your goals if they’re anything like the goals my clients come to me for.
-
and you’re obviously gonna need to maintain it at some point, right?
-
but if your only play in this is “lose weight”, you are screwed. i promise. i say that not to sound like a d**k but to get an important point across.
-
so what can you do?
-
take diet breaks
-
whether for a week or two, or a month or two, raising your calories by 200-400 — probably best done steadily. this can give you a psychological break but also a physiological one. i mean, you get to relax and your metabolism gets to rebound.
-
and then losing f*t is easier again as long as adherence is equal.
-
you could keep adding calories so you gain the muscle you likely need for your goals
-
long heading withstanding, truth is, if you’re trying to reach a goal, my guess is, you have a vision in mind — not a scale reading. so there’s a good chance you’ve associated getting to a weight with that goal you vision.
-
good chance it isn’t that simple.
-
why?
-
because that vision you have probably has 5–20 pounds more muscle than you.
-
and you’ll only get most of it by eating more and allowing the scale to go up.
-
do it slowly and you won’t get fat.
-
stop eating less and working out more
-
your priority while eating less is to keep your muscle so the weight that’s lost is fat. your main training priority is getting stronger.
-
you can do that on 2-4 workouts. you don’t need 6-7.
-
and this ones gonna be confusing so please ask questions. your hiit stuff is fine, but you may want to keep durations lower.
-
your steady state cardio is fine too.
-
but with less food, you don’t wanna smash your body.
-
and stop calling it cheat meals. work your favourites into your plan

stop getting caught up in the newest “secret to f*t loss” gimmick. pinterest is full of them. magazines are full of them. infomercials, your friends, websites, etc... -
you are not only doing the wrong thing that will prevent you from seeing f*t loss (you might see weight loss and think it’s working) but you’re making is harder to see the results you want. -
there’s literally a billion examples i could rant about right now, but this is just a nice basic overview. -
minor calorie adjustments (not a d**n 1200 calorie diet, girlfriend) lift, a little hiit and ss cardio, get your protein in, sleep 8hrs, drink your water and be consistent with this. -

One question that i always ask myself is what muscles do i feel working?

i ask myself this question when i am training myself and i ask my clients this same question. when you do an exercise you will have prime movers and secondary/ stabilizers that are activated. prime movers are muscles that you actually want to target. while the secondary muscles are the support muscles that help with the exercise but do not take the full load.

the key is too make sure you know what prime movers are involved in the exercise and to use your mind to muscle connection to keep them engaged. this will stop the secondary muscles from taking over. the reason we dont want them taking over is because this is how inbalances and injuries are created.

for example. let's look at the dumbbell chest press: the prime mover is the pectoral muscles and the secondary muscles are triceps and shoulders (standard press). it is very common for new people to not feel it in their chest and only feel it in the supporting muscle groups.

you must mentally engage the prime mover and allow it to actually do most of the work. this takes lots of repetition and volume so it may take you weeks to months to learn. but, if you focus and practice you will be able to master this mind to muscle connection and this is where the best gains are made.

I’ve been told that i need a “secret” or “unique” approach to stand out.⁣

the truth is, there is not secret to weight loss. move more and eat less right? everyone knows that but yet, not everyone can do it?⁣

here’s the real secret (to anything), success leaves clues.⁣

those clues get left by people who have been down that path before. all the clues are the takeaways from years of failures, regrets, and frustrations.⁣

and the real “secret” to being able to do that is from being in that exact position before. i was the chubby and unathletic kid growing up. i’ve also been the out of shape fitness professional who’s had his own struggles.⁣

i know exactly what it’s like to not feel good enough, not feel confident enough to approach that girl, and be in so much physical and emotional pain you don’t know what to do to fix it.⁣

that’s my real secret, because any advice i offer you or my clients isn’t just about the science. it’s about 10 years of failures, wins, and hands on learning experience.⁣

so if you were expecting some catchy new f*t loss program loaded with buzzwords and manipulative marketing tactics — this ain’t it.⁣

"when i first thought about starting my health journey' i wasn’t convinced that i would be able to do it. i told myself that i would just give it a try and see what happens. i had so much weight i wanted to lose it just seemed impossible. and the toll that having babies puts on you i felt hopeless. but when i decided to finally start, i went all in because i promised myself i would.

With that said, please always make sure you do not have any allergies before taking my advice. another thing i want to add to my comment on seafood vs red meat. seafood is also a far leaner source of protein and believe it or not, you actually can get more protein per ounce from certain seafood than you will from red meat. note 1: always try to get wild caught vs farm raised whenever possible. note 2: not all seafood labeled "wild caught" is really wild caught so do your research. the term has become a marketing strategy for many.

The great thing about fitness is that there is so much to learn. scientists are literally finding new ways in which our bodies work.

it also allows you to learn and change your body in ways that were never possible 100 years ago. you can literally learn things over the internet. you can learn things from people that have achieved the goals that you want to achieve. its a great world to be living in.

i have learnt a lot in my 14 years of training and seven years as a personal trainer and i still learn new things from time to time. when, i first started we had no content about mobility and stability. it was all about losing weight and gaining muscle.

i think learning new information is great and its great from people that have actually learnt and experienced results using these methods. this is why i believe that everyone that has had success should help those in need if they are ever approached.

now, i don't mean write them a program or spend hours with them. what i mean is sending them on the right path. whether it is referring them to a personal trainer or helping them with healthy food choices, these small changes can help that person achieve greatness.

the key with giving advice is to offer it and accept that they may not use it. never shove advice down someone's throat or try force them to do something. everyone is at a different stage and some people need a little more room to be comfortable trying new things.

Celebrating michael today! "after gaining every ounce i lost on "the biggest loser" back, i had lost hope. "how was i going to get back to where i once was?" i spent over 4 years in hiding, i felt ashamed, defeated and even depressed. one day, while watching tv with my son, i noticed he was crying. i asked him what was wrong and he looked at me with tear filled eyes only to say, "you're going to leave me!" i then asked him what he meant and he said, "if you don't fix your belly, you're going to leave me." immediately i knew that i had to do something. so i reached out to my coaches who presented the plan to me and here we sit, through god's grace, 7 months down and 94 pounds lighter! i am so grateful for the community starting at home with my wife and son but then all around who are supporting and encouraging me along the way! the difference this time is that i am in a different headspace, learning about optimal health which is not just about food but creating a lifestyle conducive to health. i still have a ways to go but with god's help and your prayers, i know we are going to get there!"

Fat loss tip #3 -eat more vegetables!

vegetables such as broccoli, squash, zucchini, cauliflower, etc. are nutrient dense foods which means they are loaded with nutrients and minerals and are relatively low in calories!

loading up on vegetables causes your stomach to fill up causing you to feel full all with having 1/2 the amount of calories you would have had otherwise!

it’s amazing what adding more vegetables can do for weight loss without you consciously knowing!

my recommendations: add at least 2 cups to veggies to every lunch and dinner you eat! (tasty tip: add garlic salt, salt, and pepper to your broccoli/veggies to make them extra yum!)

i’ve learned my lesson since. when i try to lose fat, i make sure i prioritize strength/resistance training and i eat much more food, as you only need to be in a moderate deficit to lose fat.

Most guys want to have an impressive physique! massive and shredded in all the right places.
to get this physique you don't have to be born a god or a saiyan. you do however need to be prepared to sacrifice and push yourself for years and years.

muscle takes a long time too build and if you want a physique that turns heads, it will take a long time to achieve. this physique requires muscle in the right spots, it requires being low bodyfat and it requires hard work and dedication.

you will want to go through cycles of lean bulking and shredding until you get to the goal you want. when you bulk, you will put on f*t and the amount of f*t you put on is decided by how clean your diet is (plus genetics). the idea is that you want to gain a certain amount of weight and then cut back down to the body f*t you started on (or leaner). then repeat the cycle. the more you gain, the harder it is to gain in the future.

so, if you really want to be massive or at least have a physique of a saiyan you must be prepared to train for years to get to this level. i'm not here to sugar coat things or tell you there are secret hacks. you just need a great program, great diet and the motivation of a saiyan.. if you have this, you will eventually get there!

p.s i trained inconsistently for 9 years. going up and down. never really changing. when i figured out my workouts and diet, it took me three years to become a beast.

I think this post seals the debate on what to do for f*t loss and what not to do.
most of the people make the mistakes of going all in with the cardio and with the diet but little do they know that making some small tweaks can actually help them in their goals.
going on large calorie deficit and doing too much of cardio will not only result in the muscle loss, it will also impact the lifting strength and the overall personality.
so my suggestion to all who are looking for f*t loss will be to multiply your body weight in pounds with 12 and the resultant number will be your daily calorie intake. for e.g if your weight is 200 pounds then multiply it with 12, so 2400 will be your daily calorie intake. and after few weeks if your weight gets stagnant then reduce the calories further by 200.
also adding cardio will help in the f*t loss but it will not do any magic , so stick with the weight training while adding cardio in your workout plan.

Sugar is sugar!!! 🍌🍩 (and a cake made smashing 10 bananas... is not #sugarfree 🤦🏽‍♀️ ...true story...) sure, you need carbohydrates, which include both complex and simple sugars, for your body to break down and convert to energy. but there's no such thing as a "healthy" sugar. or even a "less bad" sugar. your body doesn't care if it's "organic" or "unrefined" or "all-natural”... sugar is sugar...no matter what type of sugar you consume, our bodies can’t tell the difference whether it’s found in nature or added to a recipe, because they’re not any different in terms of their chemical structure, we digest them all in generally the same way... yes, it’s easier to get more nutritional value from foods with only or mostly naturally occurring sugars. but again, that’s due to the nutritional value in the rest of the food, not the nature of the sugar itself.
fruit offers a variety of healthy nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, water, and fibre, it also contains a lot of sugar too. the fibre slows the absorption of sugar into your body, meaning you don’t get the spike in blood sugar that comes with refined sugars however, the sugar in fruit breaks down into glucose and fructose just like sugars in other foods such as cakes and cookies.

this isn’t to say a doughnut is ever a nutritious choice. while delicious, it’s filled with empty calories and provides you with virtually none of the vitamins and nutrients that will keep you alive, whereas something like a banana is a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin c and vitamin b-6.
but, shockingly, a banana has more sugar than a doughnut.

this is what we call the 80/20 rule when it comes to choosing your macronutrients for keto diet.

let me breakdown each one for you.

proteins - proteins should come from fatty sources, most of the time (80%), such as eggs, bacon, pork, steak, ground beef, and lamb. the remaining 20% should be coming from cheese, chicken, nuts, and fish.

carbs - for the 80%, you should select the leafy greens such as kale, asparagus, lettuce, spinach, chard, etc., and those veggies that have the lowest carb sources, while the remaining 20%, must be from other moderate carb vegetables such as, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, yellow onions, etc.
fats - not every f*t is healthy. 80% of the time, fats should come from healthy f*t sources like avocado, mct oil, butter, eggs, fatty meats, macadamia oil. while the remaining 20%, it should come from other f*t sources like chia seeds, milk, flax seeds, nut butter, nuts, etc. but remember, these options from the 20% must be consumed in moderation as the carbs can add up easily.
