thought i’d share a schedule with you guys of one of the top chefs in the world, gordon ramsay, mainly for entertainment purposes. it’s crazy to see how hard this man works, as it’s been reported that he gets up in the early am to get a workout in and works until about 10:00pm every night. on the other hand, it does seem like his crazy work ethic gets in the way of his sleep time as he only gets 3 hours of sleep a night - definitely not something positive you should takeaway from this.

regardless, thought it’d be a cool thing to share as there are some things here that can teach you what to do, and other things that can teach you what not to do.

nuts make great snacks but as you can see, they can be easy to get up there in calories quickly. the winners in the protein department are almonds while cashews and pistachios take the lead in the carb department.

if you’re watching your caloric intake, feel free to have them. they are full of nutritious stuff. just make sure you are careful with your quantity and overestimate how many you’re eating (just to be safe 😊). the protein and f*t will curb your hunger and keep you full.

Why does my weight loss stop shortly after i started my diet? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♂️

the human body does not prefer to be on a diet. everyone has a steady-state weight that the body tries very hard to maintain. when a person gains weight above that steady state, the body attempts to increase caloric expenditure. when a person loses a substantial amount of weight, the body attempts to gain weight to get back to the steady state.
-
this is part of the reason why losing the last few pounds becomes increasingly difficult. while you are trying to lose more weight, your body may resist by decreasing metabolism and increasing hunger. with permanent and effective nutrition and physical activity strategies, you can achieve a new steady state. -
⚠️ so what to do if that happens? ⚠️
-
1️⃣ change up the endurance routine. the goal is to burn more calories. you can do this without increasing the amount of time spent by increasing the intensity. otherwise you will need to increase the amount of time committed to the exercise, because again: your body adapts to the routine. as you're getting better at your cardio, it will get less efficient!
-
2️⃣ strength train at least twice per week. muscle mass is directly proportional to metabolism, and thus calories burned. people who have a large muscle mass burn more calories and can more easily lose weight when they control caloric intake than those who have low muscle mass. ➡️ a quarter of a considerable weight loss comes from muscle if strength training is not included in the workout routine. this helps explain why the last few pounds are so hard to lose. the metabolism has slowed down and, therefore, you burn fewer calories at rest because every pound of lean muscle mass burns about 6 calories per day.

there are many days, periods of time or circumstances that i don't feel confident. i often deal with imposter syndrome, always thinking others are better or know more than i do.
.
the benefit to this issue is that i'm willing to listen and learn from others, and often i realize that i actually know just as much as them if not more. but if that's not the case, then i'm able to learn from them and become better! 😁
.
i am confident however that i still have much to learn in all areas of life, and i think that it's healthy to admit we don't know what we don't know. the important part is what do do you do with that realization...go figure it out? or ignore it.

A study assessing the impact of physical inactivity on national economies has suggested that if all adults aged 18-64 walked just 15 minutes more a day, the world economy would grow by an estimated $100bn a year until 2050.

it shows that if people who are currently physically inactive were to reach the world health organization’s recommended levels of exercise, employees would gain up to five additional days of productive time each year. this would result in the global economy to grow by an estimated us$220bn every year.

Tuesday is done. well mostly. lol. it was a fun day of eating. i tried to make a new snack! i failed miserably at melting white chocolate chips...any tips? it turned into powder...oops!
breakfast- french toast bagel with cinnamon butter, raspberries, egg whites with turkey sausage crumbles and low f*t cheese, iced coffee with sugar free creamer

Kb swings (part 3) #techniquetuesdayswithtim -
today is the day that we tie all this together! we’re building off of the past two weeks by introducing position 3, the standing plank! when strung together with the first two positions, this comprises the kb power swing.
-
the power swing provides a great opportunity to reset (i.e. practice) a good set-up position with each rep... huge if you’re learning how to swing or cleaning up your technique. getting good at this will set you up for success when it’s time to dive into the kb swing next week.
-
the standing plank should look like the top position of a push-up if we were to orient you horizontally, face down — ribs are down & in, stacked over the pelvis, letting the abs & glutes be engaged. mime the position first, without the kb. do you have an understanding of this positioning before incorporating the timing elements of the swing?

if so, here’s the power swing in a nutshell:👇🏽

position 1 ➡️ 2 ➡️ 3 ➡️ 2 ➡️ 1. rinse & repeat.
-
now, the way you transition from position 2 ➡️ 3 is key. some crucial things:
🔑 this transition happens as fast as f*****g possible. as you stand tall, hips snap forward into hip extension. this is called the hip snap. ribs are locked down in the top position.
🔑 exhale as you stand & push the floor away.
🔑 power from those speedy hips is what propels the kb upwards, causing it to float. this should feel relatively effortless for the arms. they’re simply guiding the kb, rather than lifting it.

***tl;dr? your hips are what move the kb. not your back. not your arms. -
what are your hips, you ask? those backside muscles involved in a deadlift (glutes + hammies). hello, 🍑!

Why the f does your coach keep telling you to eat more carbs? ⁣🤔

lemme break this down for you sis ⁣👇🏼

carbs = fuel. fuel = energy. energy = output ⁣✅

if we take this back to basics we know to achieve f*t loss we need to be a negative energy balance... this doesn’t automatically equate to povo calories!!! 🚫⁣

logically, setting yourself up at maintenance cals and drawing back incrementally means you’ll be intaking maximum energy to fuel performance and intensity in gym whilst maintaining an energy deficit. ⁣
eat more = burn more 🤷🏼‍♀️

without adequate fuel in the system, not only can our performance in the gym decrease, but so can our day to day activity levels. ⁣
energy output is key in a fatloss phase and the sooner you hit rock bottom with your food, the sooner output will decrease. ⁣

not a fun time 😭⁣

maximise performance, be smart with your deficit and enjoy the carbs y’all 🤪⁣
