Funny story... the other night i was putting our little elle down for bed and their light was at 100%. we use these smart lights as nightlights too. given that it was a smart light i thought, “i’ll fix that downstairs when i get back to my phone...” so after they get tucked in and i head back downstairs to carry the three year old up to his room since he passed out watching star wars. before i carry him up i grab my phone and dim the light for elle. seconds later i hear frightening screams. i go to check on her and the two year old is waiting at the door saying, “no! ghost! no! out!” poor little thing did not appreciate technology at that moment. i had to get my phone and show her that i was in control of the light, not a ghost. 😂👻

When i interviewed tito and tita in arizona, i was blown away by their stories. it took them seven years to immigrate from cuba to the united states. when they arrived they didn’t own a thing, they didn’t know the language, and they didn’t have a job or a place to live. despite all of this, both of them said that it was the best day of their life. they shared several experiences about raising children in a communist country and it made me so grateful for what i have. keep an eye out for my instagram live where i will share more stories about their life in cuba!

"when our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. we feel part of something greater than ourselves. our inborn yearnings for family connections are fulfilled when we are linked to our ancestors." -russell m. nelson . . i love everything about this quote. i especially love how it mentions we all have "inborn yearnings" to connect with our family. i have both felt that myself and seen it in others around me, especially my children. have you felt that draw to connect with and learn more about your family?

🍷 #family #familystories #hamburg #badbramstedt #familienmensch #eltern #eheglück #ingutenwieinschlechtenzeiten #standesamt #guterwein #aufuns #aufdiegesundheit #krebs #brustkrebs #tnbc #krebsisteinarschloch #cancerfighter #wirschaffenalles #sindallegutnachhausegekommen #familieistalles #mannundfrau #lieblingsmensch #liebeistalles

“when i took you home, i didn’t know how to feel.” when the storycorps mobilebooth traveled to st. paul, minnesota, april gibson invited her son, gregory bess, to have a recorded conversation about their family’s past — including what it was like to have him while she was a teenager. in case you missed it on @morningedition, 🎧 to our story of the week in our bio. . . . #parenthood #adolescence #wisdom #lifewisdom #motherandson #family #familyhistory #familystories #growingup #love #griot #stpaul #minnesota #oralhistory #npr #storycorps

Thank you @iamlisako for a wonderful book. the leavers is truly a beautiful story that i devoured despite the way it made my heart ache. i love books about families and lost parents because i feel less alone in my convoluted (but no one’s fault) single-ish parent upbringing. empathizing with the pain of others helps us feel less alone in our pain, and honestly i think the camaraderie decreases our suffering overall... even if it’s one sided in the way of reading a work of fiction... #highlyrecommended! also thank you @bklynlibrary for all of your books and services! i 💗 u!

Me: this is from the same batch as the mia dance festival, recognize anyone?⠀ dad: i think the girl standing in the white shirt holding the watermelon is connie, my dance partner, but i can’t identify the event. ⠀ me: were you camping? ⠀ dad: we we're not camping i can guarantee you. boys & girls just didn’t go camping at that age. ⠀ me: not at age 20? ⠀ dad: absolutely not. the people in the dance festival in my group were all adults. these are just young friends at some kind of a campfire. i’ve looked at it and looked at it and i can’t identify them. i must have taken the photo though. must be some of the kids i went to college with at university of utah...maybe it will come to me...yeah, that's connie. when i came back from my mission she was married. ⠀ me: oh, you dated connie? ⠀ dad: yes, we dated, but i wasn't a romantic kind of person. i don't think it was a serious thing, at least not from my point of view. ⠀ me: did you ask her to wait for you 'til you returned from your mission?⠀ dad: no, i didn't ask anybody to wait for me. she's the girl that gave me the cufflinks for chi omega sorority. her brother and i were in the same class. we all went to high school together at granite. her mom and dad knew my mom and dad and her dad was a contractor i think, probably worked with my dad on some jobs. she was a very bright, lovely, talented girl. connie will be in my yearbook, and so will her brother. when i saw him at the last reunion i asked about connie and he said she had a very good partner but i don't know whether she is dead or alive and we didn't talk about that then and there won't be any more high school reunions we are all too old and too dead. ⠀ .⠀ campfire photos: june 1950 - salt lake city, utah (or somewhere nearby)⠀

“i don’t know exactly what’s next, but i’m stepping forward with grit, anchored in grace.” -julie graham ❤️🌍 part 2 of claudia’s story is on the blog. she found love but they struggled as they found their son was born with a disability. many would give up but claudia finds strength in her savior and together with her husband they work hard and keep the faith.

What are those precious moments that make your heart stop? what rituals do you do as a family? what are those little grins your child gives you that just melt your heart? as parents we desperately want to savor and remember these things. it's my passion to capture those magical ordinary moments with your little tribe. and i would love to do that for you. so that when your children are grown and in a new season, you can look back on this one and remember what it felt like to hold them just a little longer.

Thank you so much for all your good wishes and lovely comments yesterday as we said goodbye to my father in law. the day went very well, the service was beautiful and extremely well attended as was the reception afterwards which was also a celebration of his life and kindness . it was a long day as the funeral was early so i didn’t get to answer all your comments , but i read each and everyone and appreciate them very much. thank you✨✨✨💛
