i have been increasing the intensity and volume of my training a lot lately. my programs have involved circuits, high impact exercises, shorter tests, you name it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
but with increased intensity, there must be an increase in recovery. without it, it’s only a matter of time before compensation patterns takeover and an injury happens. 👎🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
i went to see rui at @stretch_health_canada earlier this week and when he asked me what i wanted to work on, i used the word ‘trash’ to describe just about everything i was feeling. he really brought to light just how true that was (ouch but thank you!!! 🤗).

after an hour of stretch therapy, i felt better than ever and i swore to myself that i was going to take better care of my body moving forward #noexcuses.

A doctor once told me that if my scoliosis was addressed sooner, i would have been in a back brace to correct the curves. i’ve been to years of physical therapy and chiropractic care, each time being told there are certain things i can’t or shouldn’t do. the shame and frustration surrounding that has grown recently as i now consider myself a growing fitness professional. there are certain things i “should” be able to do to consider myself successful, right?
your girl decided to take my her advice and go back to my roots, something i’m always telling others to do in difficult situations. i value servant leadership; being imperfect, having struggles (both physical and emotional) makes me relatable and better able to serve those that come to my classes who inevitably have them as well. the only child in me also values perseverance, never taking no for an answer. so my goal is that every day in whatever class, we are accepting the fact that we come into situations imperfect but that we can work together to grow into stronger versions of ourselves 💪

I promised myself to take better care of my wellbeing in 2020 💪🏼

this is one time in my day where i don’t get dolled up yet my @fabletics makes me feel lil put together. i’ve never liked working out 🏋🏼‍♀️ at all yet as i get older i realize working out is not to lose weight, it’s for my #mindbodysoul ✨. there’s so much pressure in life to be, to look, to act a certain way along with the many challenges we each face in our lives, in one manner or other. i’ve signed up for so many different gyms yet never committed to going therefore adding this routine to my life now has helped release some of the daily toxins that build up, that add to the “silent killer”- stress. i give myself permission to #takecareofmyself 🙋‍♀️ without feeling guilty of not answering my phone for that hour because i get to choose people who i want to work for, who respects my time as i would theirs. 👏🏼. #thankyousomuch 💋 .

hip hinging movements is something you want to focus on if you want to train your glutes, and these exercises are great for activating and building strong glutes.

try to feel the glutes stretching and contracting when you're moving the weights (some of these exercises will be easier to feel it than others).

🏋️‍♀️ you'll be able to load most of these exercises with heavier weights and go for 5-10 reps (once you've mastered proper form), such as the deadlifts and hip thrusts.

One of my cues when coaching the box squat is “reach for the back of the box”. i find it allows the lifter to push the hips back more effectively and therefore create a more optimal torso angle.

in the video the lifter (adam) is squatting almost straight down which doesn’t effectively load the hips, and puts more stress on the quads and knees.

during the set i called out “reach for the back of the box with your backside.” as you can see, the lifter creates a better shape and overall more efficient mechanics.

add a little dynamic movement to your leg day with this move! you can choose to do it as an endurance workout using very light weight or even no weight and high reps, or build strength and size by lifting heavier with less reps.

as with most workouts form and technique can quickly take away from the muscle you are trying to target. a dumbbell row can quickly turn into a forearm and bicep workout if not performed properly. couple key points to touch on. first and foremost i strap up to the dumbbell (i will put out a supplemental video on how to properly do that) the reason i strap up is to help take my arms out of the equation and direct as much tension to my last as possible. second, i position myself so that i am able to fully extend my arm to the floor on every rep( the farther you are able to stretch the more extension you will get on your lat, causing more blood flow and a better contraction when you get to the top of the rep). lastly, as you begin to contract focus on pulling your elbow upward without overly gripping the weight and drive your elbow upward while keeping it tucked tight to your torso. once your arm hits the 90° mark you strive to maintain a 90° angle but continue to drive your elbow beyond your back. if you continue to bend your arm at this point you will severely take away from working your lats and the tension will go to your biceps. oh ya and something i struggle with but will be a huge help is to keep your eyes looking looking forward. this will help to maintain the proper arch in your back and keep the tension in your lats. alright y’all try it out and leave me your feedback! happy lifting🏋🏻‍♂️💪🏻🤘🏻 #ocdfitnessnutrition #underthebarabovethelimits #exercises #exercisemotivation #workoutmotivation #workout #lats #backworkout #lawnmowers #weightlifting #weighttraining #muscle #fitness #dadbod #fitdad #leanmass #lifestyle #transformation

How has the coronavirus affected you so far? hong kong has now extended school closure until 4/20 (schools have been out since end of jan!) due to the coronavirus. and it’s starting a worldwide spread. (the precautions you can take are: wash hands often, wear masks, don’t wait to go to the doc if you have symptoms, boost your immune system with vitamin c, get enough sleep, exercise, and don’t touch your face!) hopefully things will get back on track soon~ •
