Feeling a bit agitated by what the scale said this morning?

it’s not a bad thing.

give me 30-60 seconds of your time, and i promise that by the end of this caption, you’ll be much less upset about your heavier-than-normal bodyweight this am.

deal?

tracking body weight is a helpful tool for analyzing progress.

problem is, most people don’t know how to do it properly...

they’ll see their weight day-to-day (or just once a week) and think the single number flashing up at them is all that matters.

maybe it happened to you…

you weighed yourself this morning, saw a 2-3 pound spike from the previous day, and think it’s 2-3 pounds of pure f*t 🤬

no!

that’s not what happened at all.

the 2-3 pounds you see has nothing to do with fat.

it’s water you’re holding onto plus food that’s in your belly-bum that’s yet to leave your system (💩)

if you stick to your plan, that weight will flush right out :)

unfortunately, most people take a different route.

instead of getting back on track, they’ll drastically cut calories 💀, do “guilt” cardio 😰, or just quit altogether 😔

𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽. you know that your weight on a single day does not define your progress as a whole.

it’s 100% normal to see your weight fluctuate up and down 2-3 pounds. it has nothing to do with fat, especially if you’re staying on track with your plan most of the time.

stay focused on what you can control (your consistency with diet & exercise), and you will make progress.

1. from now on, when you weigh yourself…

✅ take your weight daily.

✅ write down that data somewhere.

✅ use it to see how your average weight changes on a week-to-week & month-to-month basis.

2. if you don't wanna weigh yourself, that's totally fine.

but if it's because you're scared to see the number or get emotionally attached to what it says every day, that's a problem.

the scale doesn't "define" you.

actions define you. not numbers. okay? :)

I will be honest with you, i’m no angel every single day 😇.⠀

and yes, when in a rush i do like my comfort food (croissant + grande cappuccino) to make me feel at ease again. 😋🥐.⠀

there are so many quick and easy ways to make nourishing your body fit into your lifestyle! it’s all about trial and error!⠀

set that alarm 10 minutes earlier so you can jump out of bed and make breakfast at home. ⏰.⠀

if you can’t wake up earlier try preparing overnight oats or simply grabbing toast on the go in the morning. 👩🍳.⠀

i know how hard a fresh start can be, so let me help you with one of my favorite smoothies i make:⠀

creamy berry smoothie⠀

prep time: 10 minutes⠀

yields:⠀
2 servings⠀

ingredients⠀
1 avocado⠀
1 cup blueberries⠀
1 cup blackberries⠀
2 tbsps chia seeds⠀
juice of 2 limes⠀
1 cup almond milk⠀
5 ice cubes⠀

directions⠀
wash and pat all produce dry.⠀
de-pit and score avocado and transfer to blender.⠀
add remaining ingredients and blend on high until smooth and creamy.⠀

really in a rush? remove the avocado 🥑 to save up some time.⠀

p.s. not a fan of almond milk? try soy- or coconut milk. 🥥.⠀

a diet shouldn’t be about “will power”, and if it is, you’re likely to not succeed. you may need some will power to get started, but it then becomes about your daily habits

making the best choices available, eating for your own purpose and goals, managing what goes in

people tend to overthink this and think it’s too much work, or it’s an obsession. reality is, it’s not. it’s just accountability. if someone were to encourage you to spend your money without looking at your bank account would you? no, because you know eventually it would just accumulate debt

a “diet” should be a process where you start removing bad habits and learn new good habits that you can maintain for years to come

Easy portion control 📝

i struggle a lot with self control when it comes to open food packets at home (like who doesn’t 🤷🏽‍♀️ or is it just me lol). it’s not all foods just most of the biscuit, chips, chocolate ect. -
i recognised this more a couple of months ago when i managed to finish an entire jar of nuttella in 3 days. boom, gone. it was like something in my brain says well it’s open now so may as well eat it. 😳

now i know that this isn’t healthy behaviour with food so i did some reflection on why i felt i needed to eat it all and it come back to feeling like i was wasting it because it was open and i didn’t want it to go bad and then had to through it out. plus the times i was doing it i was usually at home just watching tv and probably bored. silly i know! so for me to get out of this habit (as it wasn’t serving me or my goals very well) i looked at my options.
enter portion controlled lunch box size snacks! this has been my saviour 🙌. it is allowing me to still have the foods i enjoy, allowing me to eat the entire packet so i feel satisfied and not wasting open packets and is easy for me to track so i’m still hitting my macro goals. this is a win win for me and if you struggle in the same way it could be an option for you. 😊

It's not exactly mind-blowing that lean mince is superior to regular (outside of certain low-carb situations) 👍
.
from one standpoint, regular mince is almost 2x the calories. that means you could literally eat 2x as much lean mince for the same amount of calories - #volumeeating 🔥
.
or you could eat the same amount or slightly more lean mince, for significantly less calories 🙌
.
but what can be a bit more eye opening is that higher f*t mince is actually not really helping you to meet your protein targets if you have higher protein needs. the f*t content is too high. if we pick some arbitrary targets like 1940 calories, 150g protein, 200g carbs and 60g fat, having regular mince as a solid portion of that would be a far larger percentage of your f*t goal than protein goal. you would overconsume f*t way before you reach your protein goals👎
.
on top of that lean mince is actually slightly higher protein per 100g in general, which is an added bonus 🤙
.
if you don't really mind the taste/texture difference, i think it is well worth the extra $2 or whatever it is to get the lean mince 💪
.
p.s. while i'm less opposed to red meat consumption in comparison to a lot of other people in the nutrition space, for the majority of people i still stand by the recommendation of targetting <455g per week and aiming to reach your protein targets through other sources after that point ✌️

Going vegan 🌱 i’m here to share some valuable insights to consider for your health please read further ⁣

so on to a bit of a subject that some would consider controversial these are merely valuable facts that everyone needs to think about if already vegan or considering the change of lifestyle⁣

the main reason most turn to veganism is due to the subject of animal harm and the environmental impact ⁣

however- seeing many people considering veganism as a “diet” assuming that cutting out meat will help them lose weight i’m here to let you know it’s not always the case⁣

if one truely wants to maintain weight or even lose weight eating a plant based diet you really need to keep in mind the science of macro counting. for example, whole foods such as lentils and beans are great for slow releasing energy but they still contain calories and predominantly higher in carbohydrates so the more we eat of these the slower your weight loss efforts become⁣

eating out can be an issue- be careful and read food labels and also ask restaurants what sauces they are using. i notice even in the health food sections of grocery stores that vegan ready made meals are high in sugars and processed carbohydrates which the body will need to work harder to breakdown. ⁣

please be cautious of “fake”/ substitute meat there are so many nasties and added fillers in them and whilst we think we are eating healthy because it’s vegan, like in these examples it’s not ⁣

i’ve consulted a couple of people that have actually gained weight when turning to plant based eating so please take these facts into consideration, be super careful and cautious of any processed or ready made meals, chose wisely when eating out and when preparing your own meals at home buy fresh ingredients and make sure you are getting the right balance of macronutrients per meal/serve⁣

Can we overcome binging?

as a woman, i believe we can’t expect to work on it to never happen, because it will, due to our physiology, hormonal changes who will affect our mood, appetite, sleep patterns etc.
but i do believe we can work on it to manage it.
it is a very different feeling when you know what happens before, during and after binge and when we get in control of our expectations that it is ok when it happens.
i still binge. i have lived with binging since i was a child and i am now ok with it and it happens always when i am due. probably within a week before my period is due. also my food preferences change. i no longer desire healthy meals, but comfort food. it feels like my taste buds switch.
yesterday, my mood went downhill, head went into a fog mode, which meant i was just floating during the day.
i ate well until the evening and then suddenly it all went down from there.
3 jam pancakes, the whole chocolate bar that hubby got for kids (he got 2, which we normally never does), i shoved mindlessly some yogurts down my throat and i stopped when i felt sick.

i knew i just needed to go to bed at 6pm as i was just for nothing.

he put kids to bed and i just laid there on sofa staring into the space.
it happens. i wont even work on it to never happen, because it will.

i am work in progress. so you are too.

i learn from my patterns.
they happen all the time and they are all connected.
i observe my behaviours how they are related to meals, fluid intake and sleep.
it all goes backwards when i feel tired. you can’t battle tiredness. you then go to sleep.
but every day is a new day. a chance to learn, observe and modify, rather then try to force a change.
never beat yourself about your behaviours.

just learn, observe and modify.

we already know the only thing that stores that is a calorie surplus.⁣

but too many people are afraid to eat fruit for the sake of sugar.⁣

no one ever got f*t from eating fruit & i bet you couldn’t even eat the amount of fruit to add up to any legitimate amount of calories—have fun with that 10lb watermelon.⁣

📌 carbs make you f*t 📌⁣

it’s 2019, if you think carbs inherently store f*t come out from under your rock.⁣

it doesn’t work like that.⁣


📌 you can outwork & ‘burn off’ a bad diet 📌⁣
unless you’re @m_phelps00 it’s not going to happen.⁣

considering a meal from mcdonald’s is 1400 calories+ or your average pb&j is 500+ calories & you’re going to be hungry an hour later it’s not very likely.⁣

get your nutrition in check because most people eat way more than what they think.⁣

The order in which you perform your exercises can really make a difference in your progress.

typically, you want to start off with your heavy compound lifts and focus on using all your fresh energy to move a lot of weight. such as bench, squats, overhead press, deadlift, etc.

next, you can go into your secondary compound movement that is working in the moderate rep range. such as dumbbell compound movements and other compounds you want to add in.
.
then, you can go into whatever isolations exercises you want to add in.
.
finally, end with some core training if you wish to.
.
the reason we want to go in this order is because our compound movements are going to give us the biggest b**g for our buck, so we want to focus most of our fresh energy on them.

your core can be trained last because it is pretty much getting activated during any exercise you do.

i’ll eat whatever i want today and tomorrow i’ll train and put in double the work to burn them off.
well, for how long will you keep on doing that?
don’t develop the habit of having this desire to be in shape while eating whatever you want expecting to burn them off during training.
if you can’t get rid of that lack of consistency you have towards dieting then you must solve that first.
dieting will become part of your lifestyle if you stay consistent over a period of time so if it seems difficult for you to stick to such a lifestyle then set a target.

it could be a weekly, monthly, yearly goal in which you’ll build and develop a lifestyle that suits you, matches you and most importantly fulfils your goals.

because food doesn’t have to control you anymore!! it is 100% possible to rebuild a brand new relationship with food, retrain the brain to eat without feeling restricted...... you’ve just got to be ready to go on the journey!
how many of us have said, ‘oh i’ll just wait til after christmas and the new year. there is no point now as i know i’m going to be ‘bad’ anyway’........ why? so you can sit down in january, feel sorry for yourself, possibly 1-2 stone heavier and beat yourself up even more than you do now?
do you understand this vicious cycle we have become apart of?

so we want our muscles to get bigger, right? (sure, some of you don’t but this is still good info to have 😋)⠀

in order to make them bigger, knowing what they are actually made of is super important. im not talking about the cell structures here, i mean the real basic building blocks. i’ll save the more specific stuff for another post 🤓⠀

water makes up 75% of lean muscle tissue. makes sense because water is the majority of the rest of our body too. so maybe getting that 3-4 litres in a day isn’t such a bad idea after all 😉⠀

after that we have protein. 18 % is very significant. you’ve got to make sure you’re getting enough in your diet to satisfy the cellular demands⠀

rounding out the rest, we have fat, vitamins, minerals and some carbs, which all play their part in maintaining healthy muscle tissue.⠀

I work with clients struggling with disordered eating or an eating disorder as a therapist not because 1/3 girls before fifth grade have attempted dieting, not because almost half of bulimia diagnosis have comorbidity with s****l violence and not because i have suffered myself. i work with clients who are struggling with food and body because i view this work as the most political position i can hold as a therapist. the relationship we have with our body and food is highly personal and consequentially mirrors paradigms within our society that are often kept secretive. and as somehow who is more anarchist than academic, i still can’t mentally conclude any other field of clinical practice that allows me the privilege of assisting clients in a way that allows them to reclaim their body (and life) from the systemic systems of oppression that continually work to keep it from them. ✌🏽🔥
