have you ever looked back on the day and thought - ‘omg, i that went fast! what happened?!’ usually it’s after you find yourself running from one errand to the next, barely recognizing where one commitment ends and the next begins. ⠀

it can feel exhausting but also oddly exhilarating. like that feeling after a daunting workout is over and you think, ‘yeah, i just did that!’⠀

confession: i kind of love those days⠀

❤️i get s**t done⠀
🧡i am never food focused⠀
💛my mood is uplifted and stimulated by the motion ⠀

movement is magic - all of it, especially that which you do in any of the 15 waking hours *outside* the gym each day!⠀

👉time is your most valuable resource.⠀

if ‘doing nothing’ is what serves you today - i hope that is what you do! but if after a reasonable amount of downtime you start to feel restless, there is no shame in finding productive ways to enjoy your day. even on a rest day.⠀

this is a deload week for me, so i am on my final of three restorative rest days (it wasn’t easy). my plan is morning errands followed by some meal prep, and some ✨recipe development✨! while there won’t be any training involved, i will still move with conscious intention today...hopefully getting a thing (or twelve) checked off my list while i am at it!⠀

movement doesn’t have to be prescribed or tracked on a watch. it all counts. it all adds up and rolls into your total daily energy expenditure (i.e. calorie burn); and when you can end the day feeling like you demolished your checklist? well, that feels just as satisfying as a workout to me. your body will thank you too.⠀

Today is the second day of my deload week 🤗 so i thought this would be a good time to explain a little bit more about what a deload week is. in a deload week you lower the intensity and the volume of your traing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
why?
1. your joints and cetral nervous system can recover
2. it will lower your chances on injuries
3. prevent over training
4. get trough plateaus ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
how often do you need to deload?
every 6-12 weeks of when you feel like you need it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
how?
lower your sets to about 60%. so if you would normally do 3 sets of a certain excercise in your deload you will do 2 sets. next to that lower your weights with about 20-40%.

🥳happy saturday!! it’s been a week of celebrations around here and that’s meant lots of yummy food and i decided this week needed to be a deload week.
.
so not too long ago that would have really bothered me. extra cals and extra rest at the same time? i’m going to loose all my gains and feel all squishy and gross right?!😱
.
i’ve enjoyed everything in moderation. i haven’t felt out of control (though that cookie cake is addicting af) i haven’t felt anxious. i actually feel refreshed!! i think a couple of things come into play here:
1️⃣ i am in a position where no food is off limits. therefore i don’t feel the urge to binge. this has taken years to get here.
2️⃣ i also consistently exercise and eat healthy 90% of the time. but for me it does not matter what my body f*t or weight is each week. it can fluctuate a little and i don’t care. i spent too long obsessing on it i’m just trying to enjoy life right now.
3️⃣ i know how if i continue to eat c**p i’ll feel like crap. i ultimately enjoy eating well and staying active because i feel more energized that way. as a mom of 3 young kids i don’t have time to feel sluggish. this means i must find the balance that works for me.
.
😎moral of the story: eating healthy and exercising is important. do it most of the time. but if you’re always pushing yourself, always on the go, you will burn out. some times a little rest and a little extra food is just what you need to feel reenergized and will keep you motivated.
.

This week is a deload week for ya girl 💪🏼 this week my coach reduced all of my sets from 6 working sets to 3 for every single exercise... which is so weird! so far it’s been difficult forcing myself to stop at 3 sets. in general, i have a hard time taking it easy at the gym and time off the gym. it used to be because it caused me anxiety, but now it’s more because i love the gym and it’s my happy place. but i haven’t taken a deload week in a long time and my body could use it... before i know it, i’ll be on prep and i won’t have time off until after my shows. .

rest is equally as (if not more) important as training, so if you’re someone who is struggling to recover or you’ve hit a plateau, a recovery week/deload week might be a good option. it’s a good time to focus on correct form, movement patterns, active rest and stretching. i hope you all enjoyed your weekend! happy monday guys 🤗

1st day of deload week.. felt great not to be worrying about the weight. did more sets then usual. & by the end of my workout i felt great !

I could hypothetically carry one of me in each hand (205lbs) and walk 50 ft relatively briskly. farmer walks are fun! even if you don’t plan on doing any strongman competitions, i highly recommend including these in your training protocols. the real reason for getting strong at these, is so that you never have to more than one trip from the car on grocery day.

lots of benefits including grip strength, core stability during movement, calf training, trap activation and they’re a great form of gpp/conditioning.

Nothing crazy today, but finally figured out a good position for this circus dumbbell. worked up to 127 lbs with ease despite a huge upper day friday. technique acquired, but is it too late for 177 by next saturday? we'll see.

בשונה מאימון רגיל שבו המטרה היא להעמיס על הגוף כדי להתקדם (progressive overload), כאן אנחנו מפחיתים מהעומס ומשפרים התאוששות.

Ending the deload/week 1 with a full body workout that terrifies me for week 4. hip t****t triple dropsets, chin ups, constant tension squats for 12 reps (cardio??!), and bench press 3x5. 37.5kg for 5 felt quite nice, so looking forward to seeing this shoot up in the next few weeks hopefully 🤞🏼 .

3 weeks done and we are into deload week.

cutting is going very well so far, feeling good about it. 11lb down since 2nd jan. sitting at 207lb as of today and so far maintaining strength and staying focused 👌🏽. no complaints 😉

You have probably heard term before but pretty much have no idea what it actually means.
_
so what exactly is a deload. a deload is quite simply a time period, which usually last a week where you take it easier in the gym be reducing the volume. this can be done be either reducing the weight, reducing the sets or can be a combination of both.
_
so when exactly should you take a deload week? as mentioned above a deload week should be taken after a phase of hard training usually every 6-8 weeks one should be programmed into your training phase.
_
an example of a perfect time to deload would be after a strength phase where you have attempted a number of 1 rep max’s throughout the week.
_
some of the main benefits of deloading are;
_
✅ deloads give your central nervous system, joints and muscles a chance to fully recover from all the previous weeks of hard training you’ve put in.
_
✅ a deload has psychological benefits by allowing you to relax and “mentally re-charge”.
_
✅ there is some evidence to suggest that deloading may actually have a direct positive effect when it comes to maximizing your muscle building potential over the long-term.
_
when it comes to deloading 6-8 weeks is just a general timeline, listen to your body, if you feel weak, stuck at certain lifts maybe it’s time to take a step back and recover.
_
believe me you’ll come back stronger, more energised and ready to smash your next training phase.

Quads, 5th awesome quad workouts in 2020, prs left & right, deload was earned today!

• pendulum squats: 3x45lbs x 5+1 reps & 3x45+25lbs x 3+1 assisted (slow start, but got an extra rep 💪 )
• leg press: 8x45lbs x 6 reps & 9x45lbs x 3+1 reps (because why the f- not?)
• leg extensions: 2x45+25lbs x 9+3 partials (looped cable crossover handles underneath the machine for better grip helps a lot!!)
• banded hack squats: 4x45+25lbs x 4+1+1 reps (as i type this i realise i totally forgot to go for 4.5 plates per side 😅 )
• walking lunges: 107kg+25kg chain x 24 steps (2 sets)
.
no calves today in order to rest a bit longer for the upcoming february challenge where i (and some other badasses) will train calves every day for 29 days straight!

Last heavy session before deload.
1) front squat 4x6: 3x6 at 225 (75%), 1x6 at 240 (80%). in reality, this reach to 80% was not necessary and may even come back to bite me next week. however, life outside of lifting threw me a curveball that effects me directly, but i have no control over what happened. so, i took out my rage on the barbell.
2) 3x8 1/2 kneeling ohp and 3x8 single arm row were worked in with front squat.
3) 2 kb crossover step up and 2 kb s/l rdl were both done for 3x6 each after front squat.
4) rest tomorrow and then deload incoming.

Body weight has increased nicely over the past couple of months. i woke up this morning weighing 191.4lbs. i was aiming to weigh 191 by the end of january, and 192 by end of february. as i'm half way there, i have lower my calories to around 4000/4200. basically just lowered my carbohydrates. strength is increasing alongside my weigh gain, so that's definitely good. pr week was planned to be this coming week, but due to my busy schedule, i've had to put it off for another week.

I’m having a deload week this week, meaning lower overall volume of training and no heavy weights. still keeping intensity high in training but less hours in the gym. if it was up to me i’d train as much as possible all the time. that’s why i’m grateful to have a coach planning my training and being part of @jst_compete they know how to best structure training with my long term goals in mind. my point, don’t be afraid of giving your body some slack every now and then and put what you want now aside for what you want the most 👊🏼

❄️deloads!❄️ deload weeks allow you to reduce fatigue and give your mind/body a quick break from intense, hardcore training. when in a deload week, you wanna reduce training volume and intensity - depending on the person, their training level and history etc. you can decrease volume by around 40% and reduce intensity by around 10-20%. i’m feeling refreshed, recovered and stronger after finishing up this deload week and ready to get back to my regularly scheduled programming next week ☺️

coming to the end of a #deloadweek & feeling stronger & fresher for it. i have these programmed in roughly every 6 weeks (otherwise i'd probably train through!) & work to either drop a few sets or reduce the load slightly to decrease overall volume. 👍

for me, a deload may be a full week, or just part of a week depending on how i'm feeling - there are so many variables! 🤔

although i sometimes feel like i don't need one, i always feel better for it & i've learned that if i go too hard for too long, i often start to feel flat, progress stalls, and niggles start. 😬

why do i deload?
✅ physically - to give my joints, muscles & connective tissues a chance to recover.
✅ psychologically - it's mentally refreshing & a chance to change things up.

🌀 deload week recap 🌀 ⁣

this week i’ve been posting some stories about my progress with my deload, primarily just accepting and actively trying to benefit from the concept 😂 and i’ve received a few questions i want to speak to here! ⁣

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝?⁣
plain and simple, a deload is a short planned period of recovery. you take your training slightly lighter, maybe workout a little less, and generally take things easier. i’ve been lifting at 55-60% this week. ⁣

𝐈𝐬 𝐚 ‘𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝’ 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲?⁣
rest days (1, 2 or 3!) are crucial for recovery, but they are very different from a full week of deloading. deloading is still movement, still maintaining your exercise routine in the gym, but at a reduced intensity. exercise can be restorative just as much as it can be progressive. movement at reduced intensity is much better for you than no movement at all - the main value is that you allow your muscles to rest but you continue practicing those movements to keep up your skills and allow your body to truly adapt. ⁣

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝?⁣
for me, i have a history of overdoing it - pushing myself past the signals or flat out ignoring them, the signals my body tries to make known that would otherwise tell me it needs this kind of break. if you are going through a challenging or stressful season, maybe it has nothing to do with the gym, but your focus, energy, anxiety, etc are all being rocked - you may benefit from a deload. maybe this isn’t impacting your fitness routine yet, but if you feel you could run the risk of overdoing it, it will catch up with you in the gym, too! 🥊⁣

my advice: if you coach yourself like i currently do, and you are resistance training 4-5x/week, anticipate a deload week. make it an option! you may not need it, but you can evaluate and decide when you get to whichever week you’ve worked it into. 📝⁣

if you work with a coach, give them honest feedback! if they’re a good coach, they will know when it’s time to dial back the intensity and implement a deload week. 😴⁣

zbyt długi, ciężki blok treningowy może doprowadzić do regresu na treningach, braku zaangażowania i braku czerpania z tego radości (a to jest bardzo ważne 😉💪)

niektórzy ludzie sądzą, że odpoczynek jest dla slabych, jednak jest to bardzo błędne przekonanie. po jakimś czasie treningów każdy w końcu będzie zmęczony i będzie chciał odpocząć, a brnięcie w tym przekonaniu może doprowadzić do kontuzji.

deloady można planować i robić co np. 4-7 tygodni.

#legday i love the grind. it’s deload week so i’m doing the same weight but only half the sets i usually do. i really hate videoing but i have to get better and get my stuff out bc it really does work and it can help a lot of athletes and people with general fitness goals. a lot of one leg stuff for balance and getting the core engaged. yes i know my camera work is terrible i got a tripod coming 😂🙏🏻 here is the full workout:
band slides/hip mobility circuit
2x6 one-leg squats
2x6 one-leg box squats w/kettlebell
2x10 sumo straight leg deadlift
2x10 reverse lunges
2x10 kettlebell swings
-no calf raises for me but stretches instead bc i have plantar fasciitis in which case muscles need to be stretched/lengthened.

i’ve met with people on both sides of the fence here.
for me...i have learned through my years of training that deload weeks are an absolute must.
🦥
there can be various ways and reasons for incorporating a deload into your training. not everyone responds the same and hence you must experiment and discovers what works best for you.
🦥
regardless, here are some benefits to programming breaks in your training...
🔸give your body a break and allow your joints, muscles and central nervous system a chance to fully recover.
🔸give your mind a break and allow for more relaxation, emotional decompression and psychological revamp.
🔸have shorter sessions with less time in the gym in order to tackle other things in life or simply go do something else you enjoy.
🔸with lighter loads reestablish proper movement patterns and greater awareness where compensations may have crept in during the past few weeks of tough programming.

🔸deloads may also help with supercompensation (coming back stronger) and allowing for better training long-term (minimizing injury and burnout)!

for some, deloads may mean getting out of the gym entirely. for others, it means reducing volume and/or intensity by roughly 50% (give or take). i fall in the latter crew and this week is deload for me!
