@jordan_barbellmedicine and i have been invited up to ft. irwin, ca this week to work with military healthcare professionals and soldiers on managing back pain. this is the first of several projects we are lining up with the military for the coming year.

back pain is an experience shared by the majority of people on earth at some point in their lives. unfortunately, most of our attempts to explain this phenomenon, as well as the treatments offered based on these explanations, have failed to make much impact on the prevalence or global burden of disability from back pain. our overarching goals when it comes to pain are to:

1) provide education and advice that debunks myths and helps to alter people’s learned responses to pain. this goal of belief & behavior change can be extremely difficult due to individual psychology and social influences.

2) de-threaten movement and exercise in general. we want people to feel safe moving in as many ways as possible, and focusing more on the appropriate *dosage* of exercise & loading. unfortunately, we see content *every day* that increases the threat associated with certain movements and exercises.

examples include the incorrect ideas that people experiencing back pain must keep their spines in “rigid extension” at all times, that doing sit-ups, back extensions, or otherwise flexing/extending the spine are harmful, that the shoulders are prone to mechanical damage from “impingement”, that the knees are particularly vulnerable to “shear” in the squat, or any number of other unsupported ideas.

these sorts of beliefs present major barriers for us every day when working with clients in the context of rehab. we have accepted that these are battles we’ll be fighting for the rest of our lives. perhaps you can help us out, influencing those around you by leading by example to alter learned responses and de-threaten movement!

what a great weekend, topped off with a fantastic day competing @officialbpu #southwestqualifier this morning.
a quick, well run comp which really brought out the best in our gang.

i went 7/9 overall, 2 silly mistakes stopping me from going 9/9, but can't complain.

You need carbs!
or do you? that's at least what a lot of people say. rijk, on the other hand, doesn't eat carbs at all and is making the most progress he's ever made. he's more focussed, he's losing weight (fat) and his strength increases almost every week. within a year he has increased his deadlift to 150kg, while at the same time decreasing his f*t percentage to 10%. how is this possible?
instead of relying on carbs as his main fuel source, he uses fat. the fats in his body and in his diet are converted to ketones, which can also serve as a fuel source. because his body is used to burning f*t instead of carbs, it continues to do that when he's not eating (or not eating enough). because of this, he burns body f*t instead, while preserving muscle mass. this makes it possible for him to keep increasing in strength, while at the same time losing fat.

po dwu tygodniowej przerwie i utracie 3.5 kg wagi ciala udało się wstać skromne 200 kg i wycisnąć całkiem solidne 160kg. .

po powrocie kilka treningów na rozruch i będzie kilkanaście tygodni do zawodów.

Powerlifting nostalgia much? 😂

my journey has been a challenging but fulfilling one so far.

i've always been a perfectionist. pushing myself to my limits. achieving more, craving more.

i went from an aesthetic based sport, to a performance and strength one with competition goals, to finding a healthy balance trying to detach myself from what my ego was seeking in order to fulfill a lack of some sort.

and although sometimes i wonder if i shouldn't set new goals, do more, train harder, get back into competing mode, i know that i'm going in the right direction.

i'm still working on letting go of my attachment to how my body looks, of seeking performance in yoga (which makes absolutely no sense but i think ashtangis can relate) or being too h*****n myself.

instead i try to let go.
to accept and love myself for what i truly am on the inside and not for the role i play in this materialistic world.
to take care of and respect the human body i've been given in a healthier way.

Stamattina sono entrata in palestra con obiettivi ben chiari. dovevo staccare un 3x3 con 50kg e pressare un 4x8 con 140kg.
adesso ad alcuni questi numeri sembreranno "coriandoli" ad altri "tanto" ,per me sono frutto di dedicazione tempo dedicato x raggiungere un obiettivo.
hai letto bene "tempo dedicato" e non tempo perso come spesso sento dire. pensare di "perdere del tempo" è un mood errato perché il termine "perdere" ci fa pensare a qualcosa di negativo,come se invece di dire "ho dedicato tempo ai miei bambini" dicessi "ho perso del tempo con i miei bambini" brutto no?

Begränsningar finns oftast bara i huvudet! här ser ni vår grymma medlem hjördis som vill lära sig att lyfta med skivstången.
det blev upphöjda markkyft och hennes pt timme avslutade med flera fina lyft på 15 kg. därefter var det hennes man's tur och även han tog 25 kg.

바벨이 내려가 있을때 정강이와 거리가 너무 멀다.
(무게 중심과 바벨의 거리가 멀다 - 허리가 더 피로해짐) ->
✔️지면과 정강이는 수직을 유지한채로 엉덩이를 뒤로 빼면서 상체를 숙인다.
( 바벨이 몸의 무게중심과 더 가까워진다. 아마도 허리가 더 편해질 것.)

-바벨을 당기고 내릴때 허벅지를 타고 너무 사선으로 이동이된다. (노란색선 - 등에 집중해서 당겨보니 등하부로 그래도 조금 자극이 오긴함)

✔️자세를 수정한 상태로,
명치 아랫부분 쪽으로 바벨을 당기고 천천히 내린다.(파란색선)

처음엔 자극이 오지않겠지만
꾸준함뒤에 베이스가 생기고
그 자세를 계속 하다보면

자신의 영상 찍어보면서 자세를 수정하고
운동할때 머릿속으로 운동하려는 근육의 위치 상상하면서 운동해보자 수축할때도 이완할때도 천천히 지긋이,,

오늘의 데드리프트! 5x10 🏋️‍♀️

기존과는 다르게 반복회수를 늘려 진행해보았다!
데드 10회는 정말 죽음을 들어버리는 느낌이였다.
-
데드리프트를 수행하기 앞서, 전신 폼롤링과 보조운동으로 ‘리버스하이퍼/데드버그/싯업’ 3x10 진행 후 본운동에 들어갔다.
코어 심부, 대요근에 집중하여 보조운동을 진행 해주니 본운동에 고관절굽힘에 있어 수행능력이 향상되었다.
-
데드리프트에 있어 척추중립상태 만큼 중요한 것은 없을 것이다.
나같은 경우엔 흉추를 열어 등을 단단하게 고정한뒤, 요추쪽 신전을 일으켜 턱을 집어넣어 경추로 락걸어준다는 느낌으로 자세를 단단히 고정시켜준다.
그 상태로 고관절을 배속안으로 쏙하고 깊숙히 넣어 단단한 힌지 자세를 만든다.
마지막으로 둔근과 햄스트링으로 들어버린다고 생각하고 리프팅을 수행한다.
-
rep이 7회 이상 부터는 ‘이걸 놓을까 말까’ 하는 내적갈등이 심히 일어난다..
옆에 @yasu_an 형이 다잡아주지 않았더라면 그냥 놓아버렸을 것 같다.
마음이 맞는 운동 파트너가 있다는 것은 참 복받은 일 같다 ㅎ
