Sweet and savory breakfast plate this morning 🍳 leftover banana bread + fried egg + a little avo + fruit. quick breakfast because i was starving after a workout today!
had some of my banana bread from last week frozen so i thawed it out and layered it with pb 👌🏻 the recipe for that is a few posts back on the picture with a bunch of different banana breads. i could eat banana bread every single day haha so i love having some in the freezer. happy thursday! -

Salmon, sweet potato gnocchi, and roasted brussel sprouts 👌🏻 basically a @traderjoes meal 😂 anyone else tempted to eat all of the fun stuff they buy from the store in one day? because i just want to eat a little bit of everything i bought today haha -

i wanted to clean out some space in the freezer for my new goods so i actually made a batch of sweet potato gnocchi that i’ve had in the freezer forever. it’s good but not as good as the cauliflower gnocchi in my opinion. a little heartier though! having gnocchi two days in a row is the life i want to be living ✌🏻 added the garlic salt + truffle seasoning to the brussels and they were 🔥 did a full tj’s haul in my stories so check it out! hope you had a great day ❤️ -

#dinner details 👉🏻 preheat oven to 425f. add the brussels to the pan and sprinkled with truffle seasoning and garlic salt (both from tjs) for about 30 mins, they were from frozen. the salmon was leftover but it was originally baked at 425 for 12 mins. then finally cooked the sweet potato gnocchi in the skillet for about 10 mins! #eatwell #eeeeeats #choosingbalance

Mediterranean chickpea salad, one of the most visited recipes on my blog. it’s so versatile, goes with everything. we are having it with falafels today. .recipe follows!

here’s the recipe.
2 cups cooked chickpeas. about 1 can drained and rinsed, or freshly cooked
3 persian cucumber, chopped, about 1-1/2 cups
1 jalapeño, finely chopped (optional)
2 1/2 cups baby/ cherry tomatoes sliced in halves if large or leave whole if small ones
1 medium sized red onion, sliced
1/2 cup pomegrate arils or an orange or your choice of fruit, chopped
1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, drained, olive oil preserved preferred
1 cup pitted kalamata olives and green olives sliced ( i like to mix it up)
1/2 cup freshly chopped mint, dill or basil leaves ( i like to use all three together)
1 cup freshly chopped parsley leaves
for dressing
2-3 tablespoons your best cold pressed extra v****n olive oil
3-4 tbsps lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon sumac
1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 teaspoon aleppo pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon zaatar
1 garlic clove, minced
sea salt and black pepper
directions

in a large salad bowl, mix the salad ingredients together chickpeas, chopped cucumber, baby tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and fresh herbs.
in a jar, add all the dressing ingredients extra v****n olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, salt and pepper, zaatar, chili flakes, sumac and spices.
drizzle the dressing over the salad and mix gentle to coat. leave aside for 30 minutes before serving, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
when ready to serve, give the salad a quick mix and taste to adjust seasoning if at all needed. enjoy!

stir fry pork udon noodles with veggies.

4 cups of fresh udon
350g of sliced lean pork
1 cup of sliced carrots
1/2 cup of chopped green shallots
2 cups of sliced mushrooms
1 cup of sliced brown onion
1 tablespoon of sesame oil
1 tablespoon of chinese rice wine
1/2 tablespoon of rice vinegar
4 tablespoon of oyster sauce
3 tablespoon of garlic mince
4 tablespoon of dark sweet soy
1 tablespoon of chicken salt or to taste
1/2 a tablespoon of toasted black sesame seeds
2 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 tablespoon of sugar or to taste .

in a large wok, heat on med, wait still hot add olive oil, garlic, pork and carrots sauté till meat is half cooked, add all the sauces and seasoning plus rice wine, turn heat up high, cook 1 minute then add the rest of the veggies not shallots cook for 1-2 minutes, then add udon noodle, shallots and rice vinegar toss to coat for 1-2 minutes (fresh udon don’t need much cooking and to avoid breakage don’t cook to long, toss rather than stir, or use chopsticks 🥢 to mix) turn heat off then sprinkle with black sesame seeds.

1. season chicken b*****s with ground cumin + black pepper + cinnamon + cloves
2. cook chicken on a skillet with extra v****n olive oil

i cannot rave about this pasta enough. i’ve recently lost a lot weight since leaving california. i honestly haven’t been working out much— i’ve been trying to get into that more. all in all, it’s been a major diet change. instead of restrictions which led to binge eating. i’ve chose to make “substations” and by doing so, i can still eat everything i want, but just a healthier version. i’ve finally given into the ideal that a ton of really small changes actually make for a large change— and... its true!

Arm progress 💪🏼⁣

i’ve been working so hard at the gym lately, so i’m so proud to finally be seeing progress! anyone else feel like they notice the difference in their arms/upper body strength the most? i felt like i was stuck using the same weights for a long time, but slowly i’ve been focusing and working my way up. 😇⁣

i think i was being h*****n myself but when i look back at pictures now i think i’ve actually come a far way. ⚡️before starting universiry i never really did any strength training so the past couple years i’ve had to build my base and work up from that. ⁣

if you’re feeling this way too, don’t give up! progress is slow and steady. but taking pictures every few weeks or months can be helpful, so remember that! 💖 xoxo | #sytts

Hormone balancing & stress // ⁠

keeping on top of your stress levels is essential for hormone balance. when stress is ongoing and prolonged, (doesn't have to be big stressors either!) your adrenal glands produce cortisol, the long-term stress hormone. when cortisol rises to unhealthy levels over and over, the body’s priority becomes saving your life, not keeping our reproductive hormones nice and balanced - because a regular cycle and having a baby is not necessary for your survival. ⁠

so it is important to remember if you feel stressed often and find it hard to cope, and your cycles are irregular, difficult to manage or painful, then this is quite likely to be a big part of the reason. ⁠

stress management is something you can learn over time to incorporate into your day to day life. it could involve beginning a meditation practice, yoga, starting a fun creative hobby, getting outside in nature or learning to adjust your thoughts to alter your perception of stress, so that everyday occurrences like sitting in traffic don’t cause that same stress reaction each time.⁠

i love balancing hormones and seeing my patients get back to having a regular normal cycle, whether they want to fall pregnant or not - so reach out if you need some help!⁠

a healthy gluten free & low-carb spin on a classic dish!

👉ingredients: (serves 2-3)
1 lb ground beef
1 tsp avocado oil
1 small onion (diced)
1/2 yellow/red/orange pepper (diced)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
sauce:
1/3 cup water
3 oz tomato paste
1 tbsp yellow mustard @maisonorphee
1/2 tsp coconut aminos @ecoideas
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
sea salt and black pepper to taste

👉instructions:
1. heat avocado oil in pan then add onion and pepper. cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until onions become soft.
2. add garlic and beef. break a part beef and cook until beef is no longer pink.
3. in a separate bowl mix all other ingredients together then add mixture to pan with beef. add sea salt and black pepper to taste.
4. let cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes. stir occasionally. you can also lower the temperature and let cook for longer to get more flavour out of this dish.
5. serve this dish on top of mashed squash (see instructions below). garnish with fresh parsley.

👉ingredients:
1 squash (butternut, acorn or hubbard)
1 tsp ghee/butter
sea salt to taste

1. cut squash lengthwise, remove seeds and bake at 400 for 30-40 minutes.
2. once squash is tender, remove from oven, scrape out flesh and mash in bowl with ghee/butter and sea salt.

Buen jueves para [email protected]! hamburguesas de garbanzos y ensalada me parece una muy buena opción para pasar estos días de calor! 🙂 además, es una preparación ideal para esta época, una forma de incluir las legumbres y no olvidarlas hasta la próxima temporada de guisos 😂. es un plato nutricionalmente completo 📣 aportamos proteínas completas a partir de las hamburguesas, combinando ✔legumbre + cereal (garbanzos + harina de avena) y acompañamos con ✔vegetales: tomate, repollo (fibra, vitaminas, minerales) + ✔ palta y aceite de oliva (grasas saludables). les dejo la receta para que las hagan y me cuenten 😋
🍃hamburguesas de garbanzos
🍃ingredientes: (p/2 grandes) 1 taza de garbanzos secos, 4 cdas de harina de avena, ajo y perejil picado, sal y pimienta.
🍃procedimiento: colocar los garbanzos en un recipiente con agua y dejar hidratar durante al menos 6 hs. cocinar por hervido. procesar minipimer hasta que los garbanzos se trituren parcialmente (también se pueden pisar manualmente). agregar harina de avena y condimentos, mezclar. formar las hamburguesas con las manos o armador, si quedan demasiado blandas, dejar reposar un rato en heladera previo a la cocción (para evitar que se desarmen). cocinarlas de ambos lados sobre una sartén con rocío vegetal. disfrutar de un riquisimo plato lleno de nutrientes 🤗

our s*x hormones are made from fat! so if you still are eating low-fat everything, calorie counting and avoiding anything fatty - this is exactly what you need to read today. ⁠

🥑 f*t doesn’t make you fat! 🥑⁠

our bodies use f*t to plump up and make our cell membranes, which shows quite obviously when your skin is vibrant and hydrated.⁠

avoiding f*t and eating low f*t diets for years can definitely cause hormonal imbalances in women, and is very often seen in middle/late aged women since their generation was taught to fear fat. ⁠

choose avocado, olive oil, eggs, coconut oil, ghee, oily fish, almond butter, tahini and raw nuts and seeds. i like to add avocado to mine and kids smoothies or alongside my eggs. avocado can truly go into everything, i even mash it through willow's pasta bolognese! 🥑

let's take note of our protein intake. did you know its recommended that you eat a palm-sized portion of protein at every main meal every day? but this is just for people living a sedentary life (hello netflix binges) ⁠
💪🏼 if you are active, you need even more! ⁠

eggs are the perfect way to get more protein in and they’re suitable for any meal of the day. ⁠
🍳breakfast? omelettes, in pancakes, poached or scrambled.⁠
🍳lunch and dinner? frittatas, quiche, the topping on a salad, with some steamed/roast veg⁠
🍳snacks? boiled eggs with salt⁠

keep in mind women need about 46g protein per day, while men need 64g per day. two eggs = 12g of protein

Anxiety and skipping meals // when you’re in a complete anxiety state and your mind is racing at a million miles a minute, and you have that sick heavy stomach feeling and your heart is racing, completely overwhelmed, the most important thing to do for you, that you can do without too much thinking is eating. your anxiety needs good nutrition (zinc and magnesium!).⁠

you won’t feel hungry, i know because you have the butterflies type of stomach, but eat. eat your three meals a day, with snacks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠
i do not recommend skipping meals or fasting for those with anxiety. we want to keep your blood sugar levels stable - meaning your mood will be kept stable. this is so so important. irregular eating will keep you in a state of anxiety, making it much harder for your nervous system to calm down.⁠

Adrenals? // ⁠

do you feel thirsty all the time even though you drink plenty of water? ⁠
are you a night owl and get a second wind of energy around 9pm? ⁠
do you wake up exhausted or struggle to get going in the mornings? ⁠
do you feel light headed upon standing? ⁠
do you get sick with a cold the minute you go on holiday and relax? ⁠

these are some signs that suggest your adrenal glands aren't happy. their function may decline over a number of months or years of ongoing chronic stress, like deadlines at work, over drinking coffee, thrashing our bodies, sleep deprivation, raising our babies, worrying about finances, overexercising and skipping meals. ⁠

our nervous systems aren’t built for the stresses of modern life, as we get the same response to a traffic jam as we did to fighting a bear to protect our tribe thousands of years ago. our bodies don’t know any different 🐻. so while "fighting bears" all day, this is going to exhaust your adrenals. ⁠

All the fuss about gut healing // ⁠

i talk about gut health a fair bit, how to improve it... but let's look at why it's so important and something i work on with most of my patients.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁠ food intolerances: a healthy gut lining means you don’t have reactions to multiple foods (common ones include fodmap foods like garlic, onions, cauliflower, beans, legumes)⁠
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
allergies: all hypersensitivity reactions like eczema, hayfever and asthma can be traced back to the gut.⠀

immune health: 70-80% of our immune system is located under your gut wall. a more "open / leaky" gut lining creates a perfect environment for autoimmune conditions to develop.⠀⠀⠀⁠

Coffee & gut flora // ⁠

so i never used to drink coffee, now i 😍 it. the more i'm loving it the more i am researching how good it can be for us - self-fulfilling right?!⁠
☕it helps fight off unhealthy fat⁠
☕eases inflammation associated with obesity⁠
☕ protects the brain into old age⁠
☕ reduces calcium build-up in arteries⁠
☕ helps stave off diabetes⁠
☕ keeps our liver "happy". ⁠

why? it appears that coffee keeps our gut microbiome in great shape and that's the underlying reason behind the health benefits..... amazing! a 2016 study found that people who regularly drink coffee have more diverse gut microbiome.⁠

but, it needs to be consumed in moderation! so that is max 1 coffee a day (and no more than 2 shots in there). because it will exhaust our adrenals, deplete nutrients such as magnesium, and overexert our nervous systems.⁠

if you are suffering from anxiety, insomnia, adrenal fatigue, ibs, leaky gut or exhaustion, i will always ask you to stop having coffee. these conditions and coffee just do not mix, ever.
