Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended, but for every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind. the funny thing is that being angry doesn't solve any of the problem and people don't have time for you if you are always angry or complaining. #stopcomplaining #angerissues #angermanagement #anger #angryquotes #angerproblems #nostresszone #punishment #don'tpunishyourself #quotesforyou #quotesfortheday #inspirationalwords #intentionalliving

you are not your thoughts. you are not your feelings. you are not your experiences.

you are the thinker of your thoughts, feeler of your feelings, and experiencer of your experiences.

become conscious of the space between what is, how you experience what is, and how you identify yourself.

your thoughts and beliefs shape your experience.

how are your words shaping your life? your self image, relationships, and experiences? are your thoughts empowering or disempowering?

Using absolute terminology invites argument. the attacking nature of such words indicates we are escalated, upset, and disconnected from our love, our heart, & our emotional & intellectual intelligence. taking a time out to ground, reconnect with yourself, your core values & compassion & empathy returns us to our humanity. start again, with vulnerability, & this can lead to a deeper intimacy. #boundaries #healthyboundaries #boundariesarehealthy #setboundaries #love #heart #anger #angermanagement #angerishealthy #creatingchange #manbox #faceyourfears #egocentric #absolutes #attacking #blaming #argument #arguments #fighting #conflict #conflictresolution #vulnerability #vulnerable #vulnerabilityisstrength #angerproblems #angerissues #vancouver #surrey #burnaby

It's not worth it folks! once we start to evaluate our feelings and the root causes/beliefs of our feelings, we become more aware of how they impact us physically. i know from experience, for sure! ive felt colds coming on after getting angry. no joke. stay healthy and happy family! much love! thanks @dr.erinsousley #happyfriday#mentalhealth#behavioralhealth#angerproblems#constantpractice#evervolving#dontsleeponit#selfcare#selflove#forgiveness

When there is an overflow of anger, like just prior to people calling moose anger management, the focus has been on the caller’s power over others, which is a response to feeling powerless. when love is overflowing we consciously choose to have a powerful impact on others by being responsible for the power that we wield, first over ourselves, and secondly by compassionately being aware of our impact on others. feed the love. #feedthelove #createthelove #angrypeople #anger #angermanagement #angermanagementclass #angermanagementissues #angerman #angerissues #angerproblems #roadrage #rageful #wrath #frustration #temper #tempertantrum #tempertantrums #freakingout #imfreakingout #losingit #loving #lovingkindnessmeditation #lovingkindness #kindpeople #powerfulquotes #powerful #selfcontrol #compassionate #powerover #controlling

Clean anger means it’s not blaming, judging, but rather helping you speak about your experience in a vulnerable manner. heart-connected anger helps the “nice guy” bust through that wall of fear that holds him back from possibly making a mistake. we have to tread into the scary stuff, honestly, with the life energy that is bound up in anger. this creates the potential to address things well. #anger #repression #niceguys #niceguy

“there once was a little boy who had a very bad temper. his father decided to hand him a bag of nails and said that every time the boy lost his temper, he had to hammer a nail into the fence.⠀

on the first day, the boy hammered 37 nails into that fence.⠀

the boy gradually began to control his temper over the next few weeks, and the number of nails he was hammering into the fence slowly decreased. he discovered it was easier to control his temper than to hammer those nails into the fence.⠀

finally, the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. he told his father the news and the father suggested that the boy should now pull out a nail every day he kept his temper under control.⠀

the days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. the father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.⠀

‘you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. the fence will never be the same. when you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. you can put a knife in a man and draw it out. it won’t matter how many times you say i’m sorry, the wound is still there.'”⠀

Anger expressed with heart, & with emotional and intellectual intelligence involves setting healthy loving boundaries. without anger we would lose ourselves. #boundaries #healthyboundaries #boundariesarehealthy

Connecting deeply with all the emotions that resonate within us allows emotional intelligence to grow. becoming more familiar and comfortable with the uncomfortable emotions educates us not just about ourselves, but also others. this is how we create more self control, and intentional responses to difficult situations. #emotions #uncomfortable #emotionalhealth

You can be a nice guy, but if you are always nice, it is conflict avoidant, not standing up for yourself or others. taking a solid stand, speaking your truth with healthy anger sets a boundary, and forms a foundation upon which to build a life. anger and love co-exist. #niceguy #passive #conflict #conflictavoidant #avoid

We pick up the vibrations of those around us. their energy, their mood moves within us. body awareness allows you to notice this and choose what to do with it. an example: my daughter, delilah, was sitting beside me when she was much younger. she was going to a new school (she was 10). i asked her how she was doing. she responded that she was “good”, as most kids do. she was sitting right next to me on the couch. i told her that i thought that she possibly felt some tension in her chest, and some uneasiness in her stomach. she looked up at me with surprise, and said how did you know that? i told her that i could feel it in my own body because we are so connected and that the uneasiness in her belly was likely anxiety, and the constriction in her chest was, perhaps, a little fear, which was normal and healthy. there was nothing wrong with that. it’s good to talk about it, and recognize that we pick up on joy, ease, love, and sadness, fear, and shame, among others of those around us. if we recognize it, we can consciously do something with it. the emotions just need to move through us. #tuningfork #vibration #emotion

Professional training done by us doesn’t always go that well because, unlike most people that come our way, they don’t really want to look at the uncomfortable stuff where the learning awaits us. they want to do some easy program that skims the surface. even therapists that attend our groups often struggle with stepping into the vulnerability where the growth is. if you want to create change, step towards what you have been avoiding. i’m signed up for two wim hof workshops last year that involved getting into an ice bath. i hate cold water, so cringingly decided to face my fears. it went surprisingly well. i stayed in an ice bath that was minus 1.5 degrees celsius for two and a half minutes, and i’m grateful for the experience. check out @thestretchspace @ciandalton if you want to try yourself. #commitment #uncomfortable #icebath #wimhof #wimhofmethod

The emotions need healthy expression and honesty is what we are left with. this is not easy, unless your role models growing up were shining examples of this, which was not true in my case. so, we must determine how to be honest with ourselves. a skilled guide can help. this is part of anger management: figuring out what your truth is. #angermanagement #truth #honest #honesty

Anger is an emotion not to be ignored. anger is a sign that you are feeling overwhelmed with your responsibility. anger may also be a sign that you are feeling out of control, scared or worried about something happening. anger may also indicate that you are being hurt, that your rights are being violated, that your needs or wants are not being adequately met, or simply that something is not right. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

anger is something we feel. it exists for a reason and always deserves our respect and attention.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Dissociation is one of the core responses to trauma. we may pretend that something didn’t happen or deny its importance and act as though what happened doesn’t really matter. acknowledging the event may be overwhelmingly painful. at some point the contained energy will burst forth at a time and place that may seem unrelated. denial can give way to sadness, loss, fear, or shame. if left unexpressed, this energy can turn into rigidity, and the denial can become absolute. my opa ( grandfather) wrote in his autobiography that part of his philosophy was that if you feel all crazy inside, “just act normal”. my dad acted like that, and then so did i, until i started working with a very skilled therapist #robertaugustusmasters and began learning to connect with and express what is internal, wisely, with the right person etc. i’m still learning. #denial #trauma #posttraumatic #posttraumaticstressdisorder

A loud outer critic is usually accompanied by a loud inner critic. we all have an inner critic. the more we acknowledge and get to know this voice in our head that judges, tells us that we can’t do things, or aren’t good enough the less power it has over us. it is the voice of toxic shame. if you grew up in an environment that included a lot of negativity, often that negativity turns into gossip and rumour, which is a statement that your foundation is not solid. talking out loud about this, accessing compassion and being aware of our history can help change this so that we treat ourselves and others with more respect. #gossip #rumour #secrets

Have you ever been so angry that you are consumed by it? (then this poem is for you. please read till the end.) you don’t know what to think, what to say or how to behave. sometimes, anger fills me up to the brim. my beast is unleashed.
sometimes, i let my tears wash away my anger. i feel super light after that. all my negativity also drains with the tears. it is okay to cry. it is okay to show emotion. it doesn’t make you weak. don’t give in to anger. don’t do things in anger that you otherwise won’t do.

when we are dysregulated, we are highly sensitive to emotional stimuli and it often takes us longer to return to a baseline or normal state. many “mental disorders” and relationship issues are a product of chronic dysregulation. ⠀
⠀
due to high emotional sensitivity when dysregulated, we are more likely to get defensive or feel invalidated. to support someone in returning to a regulated state, it is important to learn tools for regulation as well as how to communicate in an effective way. ⠀
⠀
what do you need when you’re dysregulated? any other tips for supporting others? ⠀

What is your relationship with anger like? we relate differently with each emotion. we breathe differently with each emotion. the more awareness we bring to our anger, taking full responsibility for it, the better that relationship becomes. #anger #emotions #responsibility

we cannot manage thoughts and emotions when outside the window of tolerance. the brain isn’t in a condition to think clearly, make good choices, or process strong emotions. the parts of the brain that support those functions are off-line, and we must calm the nervous system & regulate arousal levels before we can “wake up” the frontal lobes of the brain. ⠀
⠀
when you are hyperaroused, there is a lot of energy running through your body, preparing you for fight/flight. a fight response usually comes with energy in your arms (for attacking), and a flight response brings energy to the legs (for running away). physical movement helps to release and process this energy. when doing that, try to focus on the action rather than the situation or person that triggered the emotions. ⠀
⠀
when you have released that energy and calmed down, you are within your window of tolerance and can begin to manage and process the thoughts & emotions. if you feel your arousal levels rising and you find yourself leaving the window of tolerance again, regulate yourself before returning to the mental/emotional processing. ⠀
⠀
what has helped you to manage hyperarousal?⠀
